What size pendant should I choose for a kitchen island?
A pendant diameter of about one-third the island width is the typical rule. A 5 ft island takes 12–14 inch pendants; a 7 ft island takes 16–20 inch pendants. Hang the lowest point 30–36 inches above the island surface.
Should I pick a single pendant or a cluster of three?
Single pendants suit tight spaces and bedside use. Clusters (three to nine pendants) work over dining tables and kitchen islands where rhythm and visual mass matter. Long-drop cascade pendants are reserved for foyers and double-height spaces.
How high should pendants hang above a dining table?
Hang pendants 30 to 36 inches above the table top, regardless of ceiling height. This keeps the light at sitting eye level rather than ceiling level and reduces glare into faces across the table.
Are pendant lights compatible with dimmers?
Most replaceable-bulb pendants work with standard wall dimmers. Integrated-LED pendants need an LED-compatible dimmer at the wall to avoid flicker. Confirm bulb type and dimmer compatibility before installation.
