Know your light

This alabaster vanity light hangs a 152 mm alabaster dome under two stone beads — dark green, then light grey — with a metal ball above the plate to balance the stack. 406 mm tall, 127 mm across the shade. The alabaster is the only translucent piece, so the light comes from the bottom third and the stone above stays solid.

Where it fits

The 127 mm shade and shallow projection make this an easy fixture to place. It is at its best in a pair.

  • Either side of a bathroom mirror: The reason this shape exists. Two at eye level light your face evenly, which a single fitting above the mirror never does.
  • Flanking a bed: Mounted around 150 cm the dome drops light onto a book and clears the nightstand entirely.
  • Along a hallway: Shallow enough not to catch shoulders in a narrow passage.
  • Beside a dressing table or a console: A pair gives even, shadow-free light on the face.

Why you will use it every day

Two stones, one shade, and every part of it is doing something.

The dark green bead sits against the plate and the light grey one below it, so the colour lightens as your eye travels down towards the alabaster. That gradient is why this alabaster vanity light reads as designed rather than assembled — reverse the two beads and the whole thing looks bottom-heavy.

Hand-cut from natural alabaster — which means no two are alike. The veins run differently. The colour shifts. The edges darken where the stone is denser. Light it up and you get a glow that belongs to your piece and nothing else. One block of stone. One light. Never repeated.

The dome is a proper shade, not a decorative cap. It is open at the bottom and thick enough to diffuse, so you get a soft downward pool plus a glow through the stone walls. At a mirror that combination is exactly right — enough light to shave or do make-up by, none of the hard shadow a downlight gives you.

It takes a standard E27 bulb. You choose the output, you can dim it, and replacing it in five years costs the price of a bulb. We suggest a warm-white 6 to 9 W E27 LED at 2700K to 3000K.

We make this alabaster vanity light in our own Greater Noida factory and hold spare parts for 10 years and more — the dome, both beads and the plate can each be reordered on their own, which matters on a fixture where the shade is the fragile part.

Light & finish

The dome throws most of its light downward and lets the rest glow through the alabaster, so there is no bright edge and no glare at eye level.

At a mirror, mount the pair at roughly 160 to 170 cm — about eye height — and 90 to 100 cm apart. That is the arrangement that lights both sides of the face evenly. Above the mirror instead of beside it and you are back to shadows under the eyes.

Stay warm on the bulb. 2700K to 3000K flatters skin and suits the cream of the stone. Anything above 4000K turns the alabaster faintly grey and makes the green bead look flat.

The metalwork is shown here in dark antique bronze. We also make it in antique brass — the warmer version in the last few photographs. Tell us which you want when you order.

Vaastu & positive energy

Natural stone is treated as a grounding, settling material, and this fixture is mostly stone.

An alabaster vanity light gives warm, downward, low-glare light, which is what is generally preferred in bathrooms and bedrooms — the cool white overhead fitting is the thing usually advised against in spaces meant for rest and privacy.

Both beads and the dome are rounded, with no sharp edge anywhere on the piece. Rounded forms beside where people stand, sit and sleep are the ones traditionally favoured.

Common questions

How big is the alabaster vanity light?

406 mm (16 inches) tall overall. The alabaster dome is 152 mm (6 inches) tall and 127 mm (5 inches) across. It projects only a little from the wall.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

Yes, beside a mirror, but it is rated IP20 — indoor and dry. Keep it clear of the shower and out of any direct splash, and have an electrician confirm the position. It is not a fitting for inside a wet zone.

Does it come with a bulb?

No. It takes a standard E27 screw bulb, which is not included. We recommend a warm-white E27 LED between 6 W and 9 W at 2700K to 3000K.

Is it sold as a single light or a pair?

Single. The price is per piece. This shape is designed to be used in pairs at a mirror, so most people order two — tell us the quantity and we ship them together.

What finishes can I get?

Dark antique bronze as shown, or antique brass. Both are made in-house. Say which you want when you place the order and we will confirm before dispatch.

Will every alabaster vanity light look the same?

No. The dome and both beads are cut from natural stone, so veining and tone vary. A pair at the same mirror will be recognisably siblings, not identical.

How high should I mount it beside a mirror?

Around 160 to 170 cm to the centre of the fixture, and 90 to 100 cm apart if you are fitting a pair. That puts the shade at roughly eye level for most adults.

How do I clean the stone?

A dry microfibre cloth. In a bathroom, wipe any water spots off promptly — never anything acidic on natural alabaster, and no descaler. Leave the metal patina alone.
