Overview
This wooden hanging lamp in reclaimed teak lights your bedside and holds your book at the same time. A tall stem of reclaimed teak hangs from the ceiling. Three amber borosilicate glass globes glow along it. At the bottom, a round teak plate floats at bedside height, ready for a book, a glass or your phone.
We call it Stem. It is 234 cm (92 in) from the ceiling to the base finial, with a 40 cm (16 in) plate. It frees the floor and the nightstand, and gives you a warm pool of light where the day slows down.
Reclaimed teak, turned by hand
Teak is wood that grew for decades before it reached our bench. This teak is reclaimed, so it has already lived one life. It carries its own grain and history, and no two stems are exactly alike.
Our craftsman turns the stem on a lathe, one bead at a time, until the soft, rounded rhythm runs from top to bottom. He turns the plate and the drop-shaped finial the same way, then lets the grain show, ring by ring.
Small round knobs in 304-grade stainless steel, brass finish, sit along the stem. The globes are amber borosilicate glass, blown by hand. Borosilicate glass is melted from silica sand, boric oxide, soda ash and alumina, and the amber colour goes in while the glass is made. Switch it on and the globes turn honey-gold, and the teak grain warms up around them. By night it reads as an amber pendant light; by day, as a column of turned teak.
Where this teak pendant light fits
- Beside your bed. A bedside pendant and a floating side table in one. Hang it so the plate sits about level with the top of your mattress.
- In a reading corner. A sculptural column of warm light, with a small surface for a book, a cup or a candle.
- In your living room. Beside a chair or a sofa, it lights and serves at once.
- In warm, natural rooms. Teak and amber glass sit well with linen, stone, plaster and soft neutral colours, in mid-century, wabi-sabi and warm-minimal homes.
The plate is a light-duty tray. It is made for a book, a glass, a phone or a candle, not for heavy things.
Light and fitting
Stem has three G9 holders, one inside each amber globe. Bulbs are not included. Fit three 3 W warm-white G9 LEDs, 3000K, for the soft amber glow you see in the photos. The light is low and warm, made for evenings, not for bright task work.
It is not dimmable. It runs on 220–240V and is rated IP20, for indoor, dry rooms only. It hangs from a slim brass-finish rod in 304-grade stainless steel and is hardwired to the ceiling. The 234 cm drop is the standard length; the rod can be shortened at installation to suit your ceiling.

Fit
Vastu
Vastu guides for the bedroom ask for soft, warm light in the evening, not harsh white light. A warm yellow lamp by the bed, for reading and winding down, is the classic advice. A 3000K bulb behind amber borosilicate glass gives exactly that kind of glow.
The same guides warn against a strong overhead light directly above the bed. Stem hangs beside the bed, not over it, so the light stays low and to one side. Vastu also values solid wood near the bed for a grounded feel, and this stem and plate are solid reclaimed teak.
Many Vastu guides place the main bedroom in the south-west and favour soft light over bright. Vastu is a tradition of arranging a home so it feels right. We follow it as a guide to calm, warm rooms, nothing more.
