Turned Wood Pendant Light – Small Hanging Light in Solid Wood, 23 cm

Some evenings need only a small pool of light. Over a round table for two, beside your bed, or above the chair where you read. This small hanging light is a turned wood pendant, 23 cm across and 24 cm tall, shaped like a spinning top with a wide, thin brim.

The bulb hangs just below the brim, so warm light falls straight down onto the table. From the side, the brim keeps the glare out of your eyes. Switch it on and the outline of the spindle throws a soft shadow across your wall.

Solid wood, turned by hand on a lathe

Wood grows for years before it ever reaches our bench. Its grain is the record of that growth, and no two pieces share it.

Our craftsman turns this shade from solid wood on a lathe. He cuts the slender spindle ring by ring, then opens the wood out into a flared brim, thin at the edge. Every curve is shaped by hand, one pass at a time, so it feels like a piece of turned craft, not a factory part.

The finish is a warm brown. Because it is natural wood, the grain and the tone change slightly from piece to piece, from a deeper brown to a lighter honey tone. Warm light makes that grain come alive, lit or unlit.

It hangs on a twisted brown fabric cord. It suits wabi-sabi, Japandi and rustic rooms, with plaster and limewash walls, old wood, linen and clay.

Where does a small hanging light work best?

• Over a small dining or breakfast table: one over a round table, or two or three spaced about 50–60 cm apart over a longer one. Hang the brim about 75–90 cm above the top. See all dining room pendant lights.

Light, fitting and what you need to know

It takes one E27 bulb. The bulb is not included. Because the bulb shows below the brim, a clear 3000K warm-white LED filament bulb looks best. It gives a candle-like glow and a soft pool of light on the table.

It is not dimmable. It gives a fixed warm light. It runs on 220–240V and is rated IP20, for indoor, dry rooms only. Keep the wood away from damp.

It hangs on a 1.5 m twisted brown fabric cord as standard, shortened at installation to suit your table or bed. It is a hard-wired ceiling pendant. Any licensed electrician fits it in 20–30 minutes, and we help free on a video call. Any metal fitting on it is 304-grade stainless steel, with a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026.
