Quick answer: The best gate lights for an Indian home are IP65 outdoor wall lights fixed on both gate pillars, about 1.8 to 2 metres from the ground, with warm 3000K light. Pick a frame in 304 stainless steel so monsoon rain never rusts it, and a shade of real stone or borosilicate glass that glows instead of glaring into your visitor’s eyes.
Your gate is the first thing anyone sees of your home. Guests see it. The delivery boy sees it. You see it every night when you drive in.
And after dark, the gate light decides how that first look feels. A bare tube light makes a fine house look like a warehouse. A warm pair of gate lights makes even a simple boundary wall look like someone cares.
Here’s the thing. Gate lights live a harder life than any light inside your home. Rain, dust, summer heat, winter damp, and a switch that stays on for hours every night. So the right choice is half about looks and half about what the light is made of.
Key takeaways
- IP65 is the minimum for a gate light outdoor. Anything less lets rain and dust in.
- 304 stainless steel frame. It does not rust in the monsoon. Ours carries a lifetime rust warranty.
- Warm 3000K light. It makes stone, brick and paint look rich, and it is kinder to the eyes than cool white.
- A pair beats one. One light on each pillar frames the gate and leaves no dark side.
- Glow, don’t glare. Alabaster, opal borosilicate glass and up-and-down sconces spread light softly.
What makes a good gate light outdoor?
Three things, in this order: it survives the weather, it lights the right spot, and it looks like it belongs to your home.
1. It survives the weather. Look for IP65 on the product. The 6 means dust cannot get in. The 5 means a jet of water from any side cannot get in. That is what a gate pillar faces in a Mumbai monsoon or a Delhi dust storm.
2. The metal does not rust. Most gate lights fail at the frame, not the bulb. Mild steel and iron start bleeding rust onto your pillar within a season or two. Every metal part we make is 304-grade stainless steel, and it comes with a lifetime warranty against rusting (orders from 4 October 2026).
3. The light is warm. Our built-in LEDs are 3000K warm white only. Holder lights take a bulb you fit yourself; fit a 3000K warm-white LED. Warm light makes a stone cladding glow and a painted wall look deeper. Cool white flattens it.
Which gate lights suit which entrance?
Every gate is different. A villa with tall stone pillars needs something different from a flat with a small boundary wall. Here is how we would match them.
Tall pillars and villa gates: a long alabaster sconce
Alabaster is stone formed beneath the earth. Our craftsman reads the veins before he cuts each panel, so no two lights are the same. Switch it on and the stone glows from inside, soft and warm, with every vein showing.
The Weatherproof IP65 Outdoor Wall Light – Black Alabaster Sconce, 94 cm is our tallest. It fills a high pillar and reads from the road. For a slightly shorter pillar, the Alabaster Outdoor Wall Light – 65 cm IP65 Stone Sconce does the same job in a slimmer line. In between sits our 70 cm alabaster outdoor wall light, a black column with a stone panel above and below its centre band. All three carry a built-in 3000K LED, so there is no bulb to change on a wet ladder.
Garden gates and boundary walls: a sconce with a pattern
If your gate opens onto a garden, a light with some detail looks lovely against plants and brick. The Garden Wall Lights – Premium 75 cm Alabaster Outdoor Sconce has alabaster diffuser panels behind vertical slats and a mountain-silhouette insert. It is IP65, with a built-in LED.
Modern homes: clean black lines
For a modern facade in plaster, wood or grey stone, a black sconce looks sharp. The Outdoor Wall Sconce – 70 cm Tall Black & Gold IP65 LED Light is matte black 304 stainless steel with gold accents and a fluted acrylic centre, lit by a built-in 3000K LED.
The Modern Outdoor Wall Light – Slatted Black Stainless Steel Cathedral Sconce wraps an opal borosilicate glass cylinder in matte black 304-grade stainless steel slats. It is 40.5 cm tall, IP65, and takes one E27 bulb (not included; fit a 3000K warm-white LED).
Small gates and flats: compact and up-and-down
Not every gate needs a big light. On a short pillar or a narrow boundary wall, a compact sconce looks right. The Boundary Wall Light – Up & Down Sconce in Stainless Steel & Walnut, 26.7 cm washes warm light up and down the wall from a column of antique brass-finish stainless steel on a real walnut backplate. It is IP65 and takes one G9 bulb (not included).
Want something classic? The Outdoor Wall Lantern – 28 cm Black Stainless Steel & Clear Glass has a sand-cast matte black stainless frame and clear borosilicate glass. A traditional gate-and-porch look, IP65.

How high should you fix gate pillar lights?
About 1.8 to 2 metres from the ground on a standard pillar. That keeps the light above eye level, so it does not glare at anyone walking in, and it still lights the latch and the house number.
On a tall pillar (2.4 m or more), fix the light in the upper third. On a very short boundary wall, centre a compact sconce on the wall and let an up-and-down light do the work.
One more tip. Match the light to the pillar, not the house. A 94 cm sconce on a 30 cm wide pillar looks grand. The same light on a thin brick post looks lost. As a rule, the light should cover about a third to half of the pillar’s visible height above the boundary wall.
One light or two?
Two, if your gate has two pillars. A pair frames the entrance and lights both sides of the gate evenly, so there is no dark corner where someone has to fumble for the latch.
If the gate sits on one side of a long boundary wall, add a third light further along the wall. Space them evenly; the eye reads even spacing as calm and planned.
Gate lights and Vastu
Vastu thinking has always treated the main entrance as the place where energy enters a home. A well-lit, clean, welcoming gate is part of that idea. Warm light, like a diya or a lamp, is the element of fire, and a stone or wood light adds the element of earth.
We don’t promise luck. A light can’t do that. But a warm, steady light at your gate every evening makes coming home feel good, and that is reason enough.
Why buy gate lights from a maker, not an importer?
Because a gate light is a ten-year decision, and you want someone to call in year eight.
- Made in our own Greater Noida factory since 2015. Not imported, not traded.
- 304 stainless steel, lifetime rust warranty on the stainless parts. Built-in LEDs carry a 1-year warranty on the LED module.
- Spares for 10+ years. If a panel cracks or an LED module fails, we still have it.
- Custom size or finish in 15 to 20 working days. Importers take 60 to 120.
- Free shipping across India. EMI available on eligible cards.
Any licensed electrician can fix a wall-mounted gate light in 20 to 30 minutes, and we give free video-call installation support.
FAQs
Which light is best for a main gate?
An IP65 outdoor wall light with warm 3000K light and a 304 stainless steel frame, fixed on each gate pillar. Alabaster or opal borosilicate glass shades glow softly and do not glare.
What IP rating do gate lights need?
IP65. It means the light is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction, which is what a gate pillar faces in the monsoon. All our outdoor lights are IP65.
Will a gate light rust in the rain?
Not ours. Every metal part is 304-grade stainless steel, with a lifetime warranty against rusting for orders from 4 October 2026.
Should gate lights be warm white or cool white?
Warm white, 3000K. It makes stone, brick and paint look rich and feels welcoming. Our built-in LEDs are 3000K only, and for holder lights we recommend a 3000K warm-white LED bulb.
Can I use these gate lights on a boundary wall too?
Yes. The same IP65 sconces work on boundary walls, porches and garden paths. Space them evenly, roughly every 2.5 to 3 metres, for a calm, planned look.
What is a gate lamp?
A gate lamp is a light fixed on the gate pillar or the wall beside the main gate, so the entrance, the house number and the path are lit after dark. Ours are wall-mounted IP65 sconces on 304-grade stainless steel, so they take Indian rain without rusting. Fit a 3000K warm-white light for a welcoming glow.
