The best balcony light is a warm 3000K wall light rated IP65, fixed at about 170 cm and aimed so it lights the wall, not your eyes. That one rule fits almost every Indian balcony, from a small flat balcony to a wide terrace. Choose IP65 for any balcony that sees rain, choose a size that suits the wall, and let warm light do the rest.
A balcony is the smallest room in most homes, and often the most loved. It is where the morning tea happens. Where the tulsi grows. Where you sit for ten quiet minutes after a long day. The right balcony lamp turns that corner into a place you want to use after sunset, not just a dark ledge for drying clothes.
Key takeaways
- Rain decides the rating. An open or half-open balcony needs an IP65 light. Indoor lights are IP20 and belong only in a fully glazed, dry balcony.
- Wall lights work best. A balcony wall light keeps the floor and railing free, and needs only one wall point.
- Warm white, always. 3000K light makes plants, wood and stone look rich. Cool white makes a balcony feel like a parking lot.
- Steel that won’t rust. Monsoon air is hard on metal. Every metal part we make is 304-grade stainless steel, with a lifetime warranty against rusting.

What kind of light is best for a balcony?
Start with one question: does rain reach your balcony wall? In most Indian homes the answer is yes. Monsoon rain blows in sideways, even under a slab. So the light you choose must be sealed against water and dust.
That is what IP65 means. The “6” says no dust gets in. The “5” says water jets from any side cannot get in either. All our outdoor lights are IP65. Our indoor lights are IP20, which means dry rooms only.
So here is the simple rule:
- Open or half-open balcony: choose an IP65 outdoor light. No exceptions.
- Fully glazed balcony that stays dry, like a sit-out with sliding windows: you can use any indoor wall light, the same as a living room.
Next, the type. On a balcony, a wall light almost always beats a hanging light. It needs one wall point, it stays out of the way of plants and chairs, and it washes the wall with light, which makes a small space look bigger. Balcony lights for a small flat balcony
Most city balconies are narrow, often under 2 metres wide. Here you need one light, not three. Pick something compact that does two jobs.
Our plant pot wall light was made for exactly this. A 15 cm opal borosilicate glass globe glows above a small round planter cup, on a curved arm of 304-grade stainless steel in matte black. It is 47 cm tall and rated IP65. Put a money plant or a trailing pothos in the cup and your light becomes part of your garden. It takes a G9 bulb, not included; fit a 3000K warm-white LED.
Want something even smaller? Our outdoor wall lantern is only 28 cm tall and 13 cm wide. Clear borosilicate glass panels sit in a black stainless steel frame. It has the old verandah lantern feeling that so many Indian homes grew up with. Bulb not included.

On a small balcony, fix the light on the wall beside the door, not on the far wall. That way the light reaches you when you step out, and it lights the doorway when you come back in.
Balcony wall lights for a large balcony or terrace
A wide balcony or a terrace can take a taller light, or a pair of them. Here the light becomes a feature you see from inside the house, through the glass doors.
Our alabaster outdoor wall light is a 65 cm slab of real alabaster on a stainless steel frame. Alabaster is stone formed beneath the earth. Our craftsman reads the veins in each block before he cuts it, so no two pieces look the same. Switch it on and the stone glows from inside with a built-in 3000K LED. It is IP65 and stands just 10 cm off the wall.

For a clean, modern look, our modern outdoor wall light wraps an opal borosilicate glass cylinder in slats of matte black stainless steel. It is 40.5 cm tall and only 8 cm deep, so it never feels bulky on a balcony wall. E27 holder, bulb not included.
Have a long terrace wall? Our outdoor wall sconce is 70 cm tall, matte black with gold accents, with fluted acrylic panels and a built-in 3000K LED. Two of these, 2–3 metres apart, light a wide terrace evenly.
Should a balcony lamp shine up and down?
Often, yes. A light that sends its glow up and down the wall gives you soft light without glare. It also keeps light off your neighbour’s window, which matters in a building where balconies face each other.
Our boundary wall light does this in a small size. A 26.7 cm column of 304-grade stainless steel, in an antique brass finish, sits on a real walnut wood backplate. Light spills out of the top and bottom in two warm beams. It is IP65 and works well on a covered balcony wall. G9, bulb not included.
How high should you fix balcony lights?
Here are the numbers that work on most Indian balconies:
- Height: about 165–180 cm from the floor to the centre of the light. That keeps the glow just above eye level when you stand.
- Spacing: one light every 2–3 metres along a long wall.
- Small balcony: one light beside the door is enough.
- Seating corner: if you sit on a low chair or a swing, a light at about 150 cm feels cosier.
Ask your electrician to use a sealed outdoor junction box and to keep the switch indoors. Any licensed electrician can fix a wall light in 20–30 minutes, and we give free video-call help if you need it.
Why warm white light suits a balcony
A balcony at night should feel calm. Warm 3000K light does that. It makes leaves look green and alive, wood look honey-brown, and stone glow soft cream. Cool white light, at 6000K, flattens all of it and draws insects too.
Every light in this guide is made for warm white. Lights with a built-in LED are 3000K only. Lights with a holder come without a bulb, and we recommend a 3000K warm-white LED for each one. Our lights are not dimmable, so choose the size of light for the mood you want.
Many Indian homes also see the balcony through a Vastu lens. Vastu has always valued open, airy spaces with no dark corners after sunset, and a warm, well-lit entrance. A soft light on your balcony wall fits naturally into that way of thinking. We don’t promise luck from a lamp. We simply believe a calm, well-lit space feels better to come home to.
Will a balcony light rust in the monsoon?
Ours won’t. Monsoon rain, coastal air and humid nights are hard on metal. That is why every metal part we make is 304-grade stainless steel, the same family of steel used in kitchen sinks. On orders from 4 October 2026, the stainless steel parts carry a lifetime warranty against rusting. Lights with a built-in LED also carry a 1-year warranty on the LED module.
The glass is borosilicate glass, melted from silica sand, boric oxide, soda ash and alumina. It stays crystal-clear for life. And if a part ever breaks, we keep spares for 10+ years, so one cracked panel never means a new light.

FAQs
Which light is best for a balcony?
A warm 3000K wall light rated IP65. It is sealed against rain and dust, it keeps the floor free, and it lights the wall softly. For a small balcony, one compact light beside the door is enough.
Can I use an indoor light on my balcony?
Only if the balcony is fully glazed and stays dry. Indoor lights are IP20 and are not sealed against rain. For any open or half-open balcony, choose an IP65 outdoor light.
What IP rating does a balcony wall light need?
IP65. It means the light is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction, which covers monsoon rain blowing in sideways. All our outdoor wall lights are IP65.
Can I fit a ceiling light on a balcony?
Our outdoor range is wall-mounted, and on most balconies a wall light is the better choice: one point, no glare and no fixture in the way of plants. If you want a ceiling light, make sure it is IP65 rated.
How many lights does a balcony need?
One for a small balcony under about 2 metres wide. For a long balcony or terrace, plan one light every 2–3 metres, at about 165–180 cm from the floor.
Can you make a balcony light in a custom size or finish?
Yes. A custom size or finish takes 15–20 working days from our Greater Noida factory. Importers usually take 60–120 days. Send us a photo of your balcony wall on WhatsApp and we will help you choose.
