Modern Outdoor Wall Light – Slatted Black Stainless Steel Cathedral Sconce, 40.5 cm

Come home after dark and your front door is already waiting for you, lit in soft bands of warm light. This modern outdoor wall light is a 40.5 cm slatted cage in matte black 304-grade stainless steel, wrapped around a cylinder of opal borosilicate glass. The slats rise above the crown like a cathedral’s ribs. Switch it on and the glow comes through in stripes, up, down and across your wall.

It sits just 8 cm off the wall. So it fits a narrow gate pillar or a tight porch as easily as a wide facade.

Glass and steel, shaped by hand

The heart of this light is glass. Borosilicate glass is melted from natural raw ingredients: silica sand, boric oxide, soda ash and alumina. White is added while the glass is made, which turns clear glass into opal glass. That is why the light comes out soft, not sharp.

Around it stands the frame. Each steel slat is cut, finished in matte black and fixed one by one around the glass in our Greater Noida factory. The steel is 304-grade stainless, the kind that will not rust on a rain-soaked wall. It carries a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026.

By day, the black cage almost disappears against brick, plaster or stone. At night the glass glows and the slats throw clean shadow lines on the wall. A plain globe can’t do that.

Where this outdoor wall light works best

Use one on each side of your main door, mounted around 200 cm from the floor. It lines up neatly with a standard door frame.

On gate pillars and garden boundary walls, mount it at 200–220 cm. The slim 8 cm projection keeps it out of the way of hands and bags. Keep about 90 mm clear in front on a tight pillar.

It also suits porches, verandas and building facades. The shadow pattern shows best where the wall has texture, like dark brick, grey plaster or concrete. Smooth painted walls work well too. It sits easily with teak doors and modern, industrial, contemporary or mid-century exteriors. On a very ornate classical facade, heavy mouldings fight with the slats, so we would pick a simpler wall.

Light, bulb and fitting

The light takes one E27 bulb, up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. Fit a 6–9 W warm-white LED at 3000K for the best glow through the opal glass.

It runs on 220–240V and mounts on a wall back plate, hardwired. It is not dimmable. It gives a fixed, warm light.

It is rated IP65. That means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets, so a monsoon downpour is not a problem on an open wall.
