Wooden Hanging Light – Slatted Birch Plywood Teardrop Pendant, 36 cm E27

Some lights fill a room. This one draws it in. The wooden hanging light is a slim teardrop of natural birch plywood ribs around a single E27 bulb. Switch it on and warm light slips between every rib, painting soft vertical stripes up your wall.

The shade is Ø 20 cm × 35.6 cm high (8″ × 14″). It hangs on a 1.5 m black fabric-wrapped cord from a round matte black canopy. Small enough for a bedside. Calm enough for a long dinner.

What is this slatted wooden pendant light made of?

Birch belongs to the Wood family in our work. It is a pale, fine-grained tree that grows for years before it reaches our bench. Thin sheets of it are bonded in layers into birch plywood, which stays flat and strong even in thin ribs.

Each rib is cut from that plywood, then slotted by hand into the rings that give the teardrop its shape. You can see the dark laser-cut edges of every rib against the pale grain. We leave them as they are, with no paint and no stain. This is real wood, not a print or a plastic made to look like it.

Unlit, it reads as a quiet, natural sculpture. Lit, the birch turns honey-warm and the light comes out in lines. Warm light makes wood grain look alive, and that is what this shade is built for.

Where does a wooden hanging light work best?

Over a dining table or kitchen island. Hang the base of the shade 75–90 cm above the surface. For a long table, run two or three in a row, 70–80 cm apart. You get a real feature without a chandelier.

By the bed. The slim 20 cm shade fits where a wide dome won’t. Hang it about 1.4–1.5 m from the floor and your bedside table stays clear.

In a living room, café corner or reading nook. One pendant at around 2 m from the floor gives a soft pool of light, not a harsh spot. In a breakfast alcove or narrow kitchen, the birch warms a tiled or concrete palette.

It suits rooms from 8 × 8 ft, with a ceiling of 2.4 m or more and 30 cm clear on each side. It sits best in Scandinavian, Japandi and natural-modern homes: light wood floors, linen curtains, rattan furniture, concrete counters and white walls. Skip it in heavy, ornate rooms or next to high-gloss chrome.

Light, canopy and cord: what you get

The round ceiling canopy is 304-grade stainless steel in a matte black finish. Steel like this does not rust, and we give a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026 (Legal Policies 4.1A).

The shade hangs on a 1.5 m black fabric-wrapped cord. Your electrician shortens it at installation to the drop you need. It fits a standard ceiling rose or junction box.

Inside is one E27 holder, up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. Fit a 6–9 W warm-white LED at 3000K. An LED stays cool, which is kind to wood, and a standard E27 means a new bulb from any hardware shop. The light is not dimmable. It runs on 220–240V and is IP20, made for dry indoor rooms.
