Know your light
This alabaster torch wall light sets a hand-cut alabaster shade on a turned brass stem, in the shape of a wall torch. It stands 50 cm tall and projects 19 cm, and is sold as a single light. The stone glows warm and even, and the aged brass keeps the whole thing looking like it has always been on the wall.
Where it fits
An alabaster torch wall light belongs in rooms with a bit of formality to them.
- Flanking a fireplace: A pair either side of a mantel is the classic arrangement, and this is the classic shape for it.
- Either side of a mirror: Mount at 150-160 cm so the shade sits just above eye level and lights your face without glare.
- Dining rooms: Along a panelled wall it gives the warm perimeter light that a chandelier alone cannot.
- Staircases and corridors: The vertical form suits a tall wall, and at 19 cm projection it stays clear of anyone passing.
Why you will use it every day
Some shapes do not date. This is one of them.
The wall torch has been made in one form or another for centuries, and the alabaster torch wall light is that shape done in stone rather than glass. The tapered shade is the part that matters: it is wider at the top, so light escapes upward as well as through the stone, and the room gets both a glow and a wash.
Hand-cut from natural alabaster — which means no two are alike. The veins run differently. The colour shifts. The edges darken where the stone is denser. Light it up and you get a glow that belongs to your piece and nothing else. One block of stone. One light. Never repeated.
The brasswork is turned, not cast: the stem, the drip pan under the shade and the finial at the base are each shaped on a lathe. That is why the profile has crispness to it that a moulded fitting never has.
It takes a standard E27 bulb, so you choose the brightness and the warmth, and you can change it in ten years without hunting for a proprietary part. We build it in our own Greater Noida factory and hold spare parts for 10+ years.
Light & finish
Lit, the shade of the alabaster torch wall light glows from within and throws light up onto the wall above. The stone is dense enough that you never see the bulb, only the veining lit from behind.
Choose a warm 2700K-3000K bulb and the effect is candlelight rather than lamplight. That is what the shape is asking for. A cool white bulb will fight both the stone and the brass.
Unlit, it reads as an antique. The aged brass has depth rather than shine, and the pale honey stone sits against it the way ivory sits against gold. On panelled walls, deep paint or plaster, it looks like it came with the house.

An alabaster torch wall light brings brass and natural stone together on the same fitting — metal and earth, both grounding materials. Warm light from a wall rather than harsh light from a ceiling is generally the preferred arrangement in sitting and dining rooms.
The upward-facing shade is worth noting too. Light that rises is usually read as expansive rather than pressing down on a room, and the turned brass profile carries no sharp edges into the space.

Where does an alabaster torch wall light work best?

What bulb does the alabaster torch wall light take?
A standard E27. The bulb is not included, so you pick the brightness yourself — we suggest a warm white 2700K-3000K LED, which suits both the stone and the brass. A cool white bulb will make the alabaster look grey.
Is this sold as a single light or a pair?
A single light. The price is for one alabaster torch wall light — several of our photos show two mounted together, but each is bought individually. If you want a matched pair either side of a fireplace or mirror, order two and we will cut them from stone of a similar tone.
Will every alabaster torch wall light look the same?
No. Each shade is cut from natural stone, so veining and colour differ between pieces. Order a pair and they will be a matched set, not identical copies.
How far does it stick out from the wall?
190 mm. That is slim enough for a corridor, and the shade sits high so nobody catches it walking past.
Can I get the alabaster torch wall light in a different size or finish?
Yes. We manufacture in-house, so shade size, stem length and brass finish can all change. Custom runs take 15-20 days against 60-120 days for an imported equivalent.
How do I clean the alabaster shade?
Dry microfibre cloth for dust, and a barely damp cloth for marks, dried straight after. Never use anything acidic on natural stone. Planning a pair either side of a fireplace? Send us the mantel width and we will suggest the spacing.
