Know your light
The Akner is a natural alabaster dome wall sconce with a half-dome shade in softly veined alabaster, mounted on a circular antique brass metal backplate with two turned hanging rods below. At 350 mm wide and 385 mm tall, it carries enough presence to anchor a bedroom wall or fill a hallway niche — while the rounded dome keeps the look calm rather than heavy.
Where it fits
- Bedside wall — mounted at 110–120 cm, the warm downward wash reaches eye-level while lying down, giving you reading light exactly where you want it without a lamp taking up nightstand space.
- Hallway or foyer — at 150–160 cm it lights faces and artwork on the opposite wall without bouncing off the ceiling, making the approach feel finished rather than functional.
- Powder room approach or feature wall — the pale veined alabaster holds its own against dark paint or marble without looking institutional.
- Study or reading corner — a pair flanking a console or bookshelf creates even, shadow-free coverage across the surface while the brass detailing adds warmth to neutral walls.
Why you’ll use it every day
The alabaster diffuses the G9 bulb into a warm, even glow with no bare-bulb hotspot — comfortable for reading in bed without waking a partner across the room. Because the shade is natural stone rather than fabric, it handles close-range heat well and the colour does not shift over time. Wall-mounted, it removes a lamp from the nightstand entirely and returns that surface to a glass of water, a book, and nothing else. In a hallway, guests tend to notice the veining in the shade before they register that the room is well-lit at all.
Hand-cut from natural alabaster — which means no two are alike. The veins run differently. The colour shifts. The edges darken where the stone is denser. Light it up and you get a glow that belongs to your piece and nothing else. One block of stone. One light. Never repeated.
Light & finish
When lit, the veined alabaster glows from within — the stone’s natural patterning becomes visible, and the light it casts is amber-warm rather than cool or clinical. The open underside of the dome directs light forward and downward, making it genuinely useful for task and ambient lighting rather than decorative only. Unlit, the pale natural alabaster and antique brass metal read together as a warm, earth-toned sculptural object. It works particularly well in interiors built around linen, terracotta, sage green, raw wood, and warm-white plaster, as well as in marble-and-brass or travertine schemes.
Vaastu & positive energy
In Vaastu, natural stone such as alabaster is associated with stability and groundedness — qualities traditionally considered beneficial in the bedroom and in entranceways that set the tone for the home. White and off-white tones are linked with clarity, purity and calm. Warm, diffused light is traditionally considered conducive to rest rather than stimulation, and a rounded dome form is associated with smooth, unobstructed energy flow indoors. A balanced pair of sconces on either side of a bed or doorway is associated with harmony and partnership in the space.

Common questions
What are the dimensions of the Akner wall sconce?
The Akner measures 350 mm wide and 385 mm tall (35 × 38.5 cm). It takes one G9 bulb, which is not included.
What type of bulb does it take?
A G9 bulb, maximum 40 W. A 3–4 W warm-white G9 LED works well for everyday use and keeps the alabaster cool.
At what height should I mount it on the wall?
About 110–120 cm from floor to sconce centre beside a bed; 150–160 cm in a hallway or foyer where face-level light is more useful.
Can I use this sconce in a bathroom?
No. The Akner is rated IP20, which means dry indoor spaces only — bedrooms, hallways, living rooms and foyers.
Should I buy one sconce or a pair?
A single works well as a foyer accent or over a console; a matched pair is the stronger choice for a bedhead wall or flanking a mirror or entryway.
Will the alabaster shade crack or yellow over time?
Natural alabaster is a stone and does not yellow or discolour from the heat of a low-wattage LED. Avoid impact; clean with a dry or barely damp soft cloth.
