Overview
Switch it on and a scallop of stone glows, with warm light washing up the wall. This scallop wall light is a fluted cup of real alabaster, 20 cm tall and 15 cm wide, shaped like a sea shell. Some call it a scalloped wall sconce, for the fluted rim that opens like a shell. The light sits inside and shines up and out of the open top, so the wall above fills with a soft glow while the flutes and amber veins of the stone light up from within.
Real alabaster, carved flute by flute
Alabaster is stone formed beneath the earth over thousands of years. It is fine-grained and translucent, which is why light passes through it and shows every vein.
A craftsman in our Greater Noida factory hollows each shell from a single block, then carves the deep flutes one by one so they curve together at the base. He polishes the stone by hand until it feels smooth as a shell from the sea. Some pieces carry warm amber veins; others are almost pure white with soft grey clouds. No two are the same.
Where a shell wall light works best
- Beside the bed. A pair either side of the headboard gives soft light for the evening, with no bulb in your eyes. See our bedroom wall lights.

Hang it about 165–180 cm from the floor, so the light washes the wall above and the glowing stone sits at eye level. It suits classic, coastal and warm-minimal rooms: plaster walls, linen, oak and stone.

Light and fitting
It takes one G9 bulb. The bulb is not included; fit a 3000K warm-white G9 LED for the softest glow through the stone. The light points up and out of the shell. It is not dimmable.
It is hard-wired to the wall and rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms. Any licensed electrician fits it in 20–30 minutes, and we help free on a video call.
