Overview
The alabaster glass ball from Jagmag Lights is a handcrafted 6-inch round glass shade — a soft-white diffusing globe used in chandeliers, jhumars, wall lights, hanging lights, table lamps, and floor lamps wherever a round glass shade is needed. Made in India from alabaster glass, each ball carries natural gray-brown veining that makes every piece one of a kind. Browse our full range of glass lighting components.
Where it fits
- Chandelier and jhuma restorations where original globes are damaged, missing, or mismatched — this ball restores an even, glare-free glow across every arm.
- Custom fixture builds that need a consistent diffusing shade across multiple pendant arms at once.
- Table lamp and floor lamp conversions where a round glass globe replaces a fabric shade for a cleaner, more refined look.
- Single-arm wall-bracket builds that call for a compact decorative globe to replace a bare bulb or a plain shade.
Why you’ll use it every day
A good shade does invisible work. The alabaster glass surface eliminates the hard shadow rings that bare bulbs and thin plastic shades produce — every corner of the room gets the same soft wash of light instead. Because the finish is matte when unlit and fully luminous when switched on, the ball reads as a considered decorative object in both states. When a single globe breaks in a five-arm chandelier, this replacement means you do not need to source a custom shade or retire the entire fixture — one piece arrives, fits, and the chandelier is whole again. For anyone building a fixture from scratch, a set of matched alabaster glass balls keeps the look coherent without the cost of a fully assembled chandelier.
Light & finish
Unlit, the ball reads as a quiet decorative object — matte white with faint earthy veining that catches ambient daylight without competing with the room. Lit, the entire surface becomes luminous: the alabaster glass diffuses the bulb’s output into a gentle, even glow with no visible hotspot or harsh ring. The natural veining gives the light a subtly layered quality that adds warmth without harshness. The soft-white finish pairs cleanly with brass, antique bronze metal, and antique gold chandelier arms, and looks equally at home with chrome and polished-nickel fixtures.

Vastu
In Vaastu, rounded forms are traditionally associated with smooth, unobstructed energy flow — a sphere carries no sharp edges to deflect or trap movement through a space. Soft white and cream tones are considered sattvik, associated with clarity, calm, and a quality of light that settles the senses rather than agitating them. A diffusing globe spreads illumination evenly in all directions, which in traditional thought is associated with balance and an open, welcoming atmosphere. Used as part of a chandelier or a pair of wall brackets, alabaster glass balls are traditionally considered harmonious additions to living rooms, dining spaces, and prayer areas.
Care
·Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth.
·Spot-clean with a pH-neutral cleaner on a cloth — never spray directly.
·Wipe the stainless steel gently dry after cleaning. Avoid abrasives and harsh chemicals.
·Indoor use only unless an IP rating is specified.
·Switch off the circuit before any electrical maintenance.
·Check mounting hardware periodically and tighten if needed.
FAQ
Is this a complete light fitting or just the glass shade?
This is a glass shade component only. It does not include wiring, a bulb holder, or a bulb — it fits over the collar of an existing fixture arm.
What is the diameter of the glass ball?
The ball is 6 inches in diameter, approximately 15 cm across.
What is the alabaster glass ball made from?
Alabaster glass, handcrafted in India. Each piece has individual natural gray-brown veining; slight variation in pattern between units is normal and expected.
Which fixtures can I use this glass ball with?
It suits chandeliers, jhumars, wall-bracket lights, hanging lights, table lamps, and floor lamps that accept a round glass globe shade of this diameter.
Will the veining pattern match if I order more than one?
Natural variation means each handcrafted ball is slightly different. Contact us before ordering a large set and we will do our best to select closely matched pieces from stock.
Is there an opening in the ball for the bulb holder?
Yes. The ball has a circular opening at the top that fits over the bulb holder or collar of your fixture arm.
