Know your light
The stacked alabaster wall light Payson is built from two suspended columns of hand-carved white alabaster discs, each held on a curved arm that projects from a round aged-brass backplate. At 20 inches tall and just 4.25 inches deep, it sits close to the wall and reads as a sculptural pair of cylinders before a bulb even goes in. Warm, veined stone lit from within — this is the bedside or foyer sconce that makes a room feel considered.
Where it fits
- Bedside in a master or guest room: Mount a pair flanking the headboard at roughly 150–160 cm from the floor. The narrow 8.5-inch width leaves the wall clean between them; the twin drops frame the bed without encroaching on it.
- Foyer or entrance hall: A single Payson on the first wall you see creates a hotel-lobby moment — sculptural by day, welcoming by night.
- Corridor accent: At only 4.25 inches deep it won’t catch a shoulder in a narrow passage, and the glow through the alabaster columns brings texture to an otherwise plain wall.
- Lounge reading corner: Positioned above a reading chair at comfortable eye height it gives a soft, glare-free wash without a shade obstructing the room.
Why you’ll use it every day
The alabaster diffuses the bulb completely — there’s no visible filament, no hot spot, just a warm column of light that is easy on the eyes at the end of the day. It does not fight you when you are trying to wind down. Because it is wall-mounted, you get your nightstand back: no lamp base, no trailing cord, nothing to knock over in the dark. In a foyer it gives a welcoming, hotel-like wash the moment you walk in. A pair of these at a dimmer feels genuinely luxurious — the kind of light that slows a room down.
Hand-cut from natural alabaster — which means no two are alike. The veins run differently. The colour shifts. The edges darken where the stone is denser. Light it up and you get a glow that belongs to your piece and nothing else. One block of stone. One light. Never repeated.
Light & finish
Lit, the alabaster columns emit a warm, amber-tinted glow that reveals the natural veining unique to each piece of stone — no two Paysons look identical. Light flows softly through each disc stack, producing a gentle wall wash rather than a directed pool. Unlit, the aged-brass backplate and curved arms read as composed metalwork against the white stone — an architectural object that holds its own in daylight. It pairs naturally with warm timber floors, linen upholstery, raw-plaster or limewash walls, and any interior that leans towards natural materials over polished surfaces.
Vaastu & positive energy
In Vaastu, natural stone is associated with stability and grounding — qualities that suit a bedroom or entrance where stillness is welcome. White and translucent materials are traditionally considered conducive to clarity and peaceful energy. The aged-brass metal frame carries the metal element, which in Vaastu is associated with warmth and refinement. Rounded, stacked forms are seen as smooth carriers of energy flow, avoiding hard-edged interruptions. Used as a matched pair flanking a bed or doorway, the fixtures reflect the number two — traditionally linked to balance and partnership in the home.

Common questions
What are the exact dimensions?
The fixture is 20 in (51 cm) high, 8.5 in (21.6 cm) wide and just 4.25 in (10.8 cm) deep. The drop from the arm tip to the base of each column is 12.25 in (31.1 cm).
Is the stone real alabaster?
Yes — each column is made from hand-carved white alabaster discs, so the natural veining and translucency are unique to every piece. No two fixtures look identical.
Does it come with a bulb?
No. It has two holders, one per drop, each rated up to 40 W. A warm-white LED (2700–3000 K) gives the softest glow through the alabaster.
Can I use it as a reading light?
It works best as ambient or mood lighting — the diffused alabaster produces a warm wash rather than a focused reading beam. For directed reading light, pair it with a dedicated task lamp on the nightstand.
What height should I mount it at?
For a bedside pair, centre the backplate at 150–160 cm from the floor, placing the drop at a comfortable height above a standard mattress. In a foyer or corridor, 160–170 cm from the floor is typical.
Is it suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?
No — the IP20 rating means it is designed for dry indoor environments only. It should not be installed in bathrooms, covered balconies, or any damp or wet location.
