Rattan Hanging Light – Handwoven Cane Pendant Shade, 18 Inch

Switch it on and the weave starts to glow. Warm light slips through the cane and lays a soft lattice across your ceiling.

This cane frame pendant light is our rattan hanging light: a wide donut of handwoven natural rattan and cane, 18 inches (45.7 cm) across and 15 cm tall. The centre is open underneath. Light falls straight down onto your table while the whole ring glows around it.

Cane and rattan, woven by hand

Rattan is a climbing palm. Cane is the tough outer skin of its stem. Both belong to our fibre family: material grown by nature, not pressed from a mould.

Our craftsman wraps each strand over a 304-grade stainless steel frame, row after row, and binds the joins inside with jute twine. Because every shade is woven by hand, the tone and tightness vary a little. No two are the same.

Unlit, it reads as a warm honey-tan form with deep horizontal texture. Lit, the gaps in the weave throw a gentle pattern of shadow on the ceiling and the walls nearby.

Where a rattan hanging light works best

• Over a 6–10 seat dining table: the 18-inch spread anchors a long table and pools light over the meal without blocking anyone’s view.
• In an open living room or lounge corner: hung over a reading chair or side table, it gives an undefined space a warm focal point.
• In a bedroom, above a low bed: the glow through the weave is soft enough for a late-night read without waking your partner.
• In a home studio or café nook: natural texture warms plain white walls without fighting your art or shelves.

It sits well with teak and walnut furniture, whitewashed walls, terracotta tones and jute or linen textiles. It suits boho, coastal, Japandi and contemporary rooms. Skip it in heavily ornate or gilded rooms.

Light, fitting and the steel inside

Inside, the shade is held by a 304-grade stainless steel frame and spider in a tan finish that disappears into the weave. Stainless steel does not rust, and it carries a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026.

It takes one E27 bulb. The bulb is not included; fit a 3000K warm-white LED. This light is not dimmable. It gives a fixed warm glow.

It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms. Rattan and cane can warp in damp air, so keep it out of bathrooms and outdoors.

It hangs on 1.5 m of wire from a round ceiling canopy of about 10 × 10 × 2.5 cm, on 220–240 V. Your electrician shortens the wire at installation. Hang it 70–80 cm above a tabletop for dining, or 180–200 cm from the floor for an open, ambient glow.

It suits rooms of 10 × 10 ft and up, with a ceiling of at least 8 ft. Leave about 30 cm to the wall on each side. Any licensed electrician fits it in 20–30 minutes, and we give free video-call support while they do.
