Turned Brass Pendant Light – 16″ Alabaster Dome | Jagmag Lights

This turned brass pendant light stacks four lathe-turned brass forms into a spindle and finishes with a hand-cut alabaster dome. Each brass section is a different profile — an ovoid, then three flattened discs that narrow as they descend — so the stem tapers into the 152 mm shade. 406 mm overall on a rigid brass rod.

Where it fits

At 152 mm wide this is a small pendant. It works in numbers, or singly where a large fixture would be wrong.

• In a row over a kitchen island: Three at 70 to 80 cm apart, hung 75 cm above the worktop. The narrow shade keeps sightlines across the counter open.
• Beside a bed: One each side at 75 to 90 cm above the mattress, freeing both nightstands.
• Over a console or in an entry: A single one against a plain wall, dropped to eye level.
• Above a small dining table: Two centred over a table for four, rather than one wide fixture.

Why you will use it every day

The stem is the product. The shade just finishes it.

Four separate brass pieces are turned on a lathe and threaded onto the stem, each with its own profile and a crisp shoulder where it meets the next. That is what gives this turned brass pendant light its silhouette — it reads as a candlestick or a balustrade rather than a lamp, and it holds up at close range because every join is a real turned edge rather than a moulded seam.

Hand-cut from natural alabaster — which means no two are alike. The veins run differently. The colour shifts. The edges darken where the stone is denser. Light it up and you get a glow that belongs to your piece and nothing else. One block of stone. One light. Never repeated.

The dome is a half sphere, open at the bottom. Because it is shallow rather than deep, the light gets out sideways as well as down — so a row of these over an island lights the counter without leaving the space between them dark.

The brass is antique-finished, not lacquered bright. It will darken slowly where hands and steam reach it, which is the point over a kitchen island. A polished finish in that position looks wrong within a year.

It takes a standard E27 bulb. You choose the output, you can dim it, and in five years you buy a bulb rather than a fixture. We suggest a warm-white 6 to 9 W E27 LED at 2700K to 3000K.

We make this turned brass pendant light in our own Greater Noida factory and hold spare parts for 10 years and more — the alabaster dome can be reordered on its own, which matters on the part most likely to get knocked.

Light & finish

The shallow dome gives a wide, soft pool rather than a tight spot. Over a counter at 75 cm you get roughly a metre of usable light per pendant, which is why they space well at 70 to 80 cm.

The alabaster glows through its walls at the same time, so the shade itself reads as a warm object rather than a dark shape with light under it. The veining shows as faint darker lines when lit.

Keep the bulb warm — 2700K to 3000K. The brass and the cream stone both carry yellow, and a cool bulb fights them and makes the alabaster look grey.

Unlit, it is a brass spindle and a pale stone cap. It suits plaster, lime wash, timber and stone, and it sits comfortably in both traditional and plain modern kitchens.
