Rattan Hanging Lamp – Handwoven Pendant, Coastal or Natural, 35–60 cm

Picture a slow evening in your kitchen. The kettle is on, the island is clear, and a soft woven pattern spreads across the ceiling. That is what this rattan hanging lamp does the moment you switch it on.

It is a round, handwoven dome that narrows to a flared neck at the top. Choose from four sizes, 35, 40, 50 and 60 cm across, and two finishes. Natural is plain, undyed rattan that glows an even honey colour. Coastal weaves soft blue, natural tan and white rattan in bands, on a black cord and canopy.

Real rattan, woven by hand

Rattan is a climbing palm that grows in tropical forests. It belongs to the fibre family, with cane, jute and linen. Its long strands are light and tough, and they bend without breaking.

A weaver bends those strands over the shape, one row at a time. Near the top the weave runs tight. Lower down the strands stand open and upright, held by woven rings. The rim is closed with a twisted rattan edge. No two lamps come out exactly alike, because no two strands are.

Switch it on and the light passes through the weave. The open lower band glows warm. The tight upper band throws a fine pattern of shadows across your wall and ceiling.

Where a rattan hanging lamp works best

• Over a kitchen island. One 40 cm lamp suits a counter up to 90 cm across. On a longer island, hang two or three, 70–80 cm apart.
• Over the dining table. The 50 cm size suits a 4–6 seat table. Over a round or rectangular table up to 120 cm across, it becomes the centrepiece.
• In the living room. The 60 cm size makes a statement as the main light. A smaller one hung lower turns a reading corner into a warm spot.
• By the bed or in a small corner. The 35 cm size fits bedsides and tight spaces, or a cluster of three over a narrow island.
• In a study or café. It sits well with white walls, exposed wood and stone surfaces.

It suits coastal, boho, Japandi, wabi-sabi and Scandi rooms. Pair it with light wood, rattan furniture, white cabinets, linen, and stone or quartz worktops. It looks out of place beside heavy, dark carved wood or a very formal room.

Light and fitting

Inside is one E27 holder. The bulb is not included. Fit a 3000K warm-white LED for a cosy glow through the weave. This light is not dimmable. It runs on 220–240 V and is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms only.

The ceiling canopy is 304-grade stainless steel, 10 cm across and 2.5 cm deep. On the Coastal finish it is matte black. It will not rust, and it carries a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026. That warranty covers the steel; the shade is natural rattan.

The lamp hangs on an adjustable cord. It is up to 1.5 m long on the Coastal finish and 120 cm on the Natural. Your electrician shortens it at installation. Hang the bottom of the shade 75–90 cm above a counter or table. In a walkway, keep it at least 210 cm off the floor. A ceiling of 240 cm or more works best. Give it a room of at least 3 m × 3 m and 60 cm from the nearest wall.
