You found a lovely crystal chandelier online. The photos sparkle. The reviews look good. The listing says nothing about where the light was made.
A few months later, you need it 10 cm shorter for the new false ceiling. Or one crystal arm cracks during cleaning.
You call the seller. The seller says the pieces came in a shipment, and the next shipment is “maybe in a few months”.
This blog explains what a Chinese chandelier really is, how to find out where any chandelier was made, and what changes when the maker is in India.
The short answer
Most lights imported into India come from China. A Chinese chandelier can look beautiful and cost less.
A chandelier made in India, in the maker’s own factory, gives you three things an imported piece cannot. You get your exact size. You get spare parts for years. And the people who built it answer your call.
So before you buy, find out two things: where the chandelier was made, and who will answer when you need a part.
What is really going on: where it is made decides who stands behind it
India buys a lot of lights from abroad. TrendEconomy, which tracks United Nations trade data, shows India imported lamps and light fittings worth about 462 million US dollars in 2023.
China supplied most of those lights. China’s share was 78 out of every 100 dollars.
So when a shop or a listing does not say where a chandelier was made, the chances are high that the chandelier came from China.
The country is not the real problem. Plenty of good lights are made in China. The real question is simpler: is the person selling you the light the person who made the light?
A seller who buys finished chandeliers from abroad cannot change the size. The seller cannot cut a new arm. The seller can only sell what arrived in the box.
A maker can do all three, because the frames, the tools and the people are in one place.
The law helps you find out. India’s e-commerce rules from 2020 ask online shops to show the country of origin of their goods. The Week reported this when the rules were notified in July 2020.
How to check where a chandelier was made
These five checks take ten minutes, in a shop or on a phone.
- Scroll the listing to the “Country of Origin” line, and if the line is missing, ask the seller to write it on the bill.
- Ask the seller one plain question: “Did you make this chandelier, or did you buy it?”
- Ask if the seller will sell you one spare crystal or one spare arm today.
- Ask if the seller can make the same chandelier a little wider, narrower or shorter.
- Ask for the warranty in writing, and ask what the warranty covers.
Write the answers down, or ask for them on WhatsApp. A seller who is sure of the answers will not mind.
A maker answers yes to most of these. A reseller usually has to check with someone else first.

Chinese chandelier or Indian-made: side by side
Here is the same comparison in plain words, the way you would explain it to your family.
| What you care about | JagMag chandelier | Chinese chandelier from a reseller |
|---|---|---|
| Where it is made | Our own factory in Greater Noida | A factory in China, shipped in a container |
| Your exact size | Yes, custom size in 15–20 working days | Only the sizes the seller has in stock |
| A spare crystal or arm | Kept for 10+ years | Only if the seller ordered extras |
| Who you call | The people who made it | The seller, who bought it |
| Rust warranty in writing | Lifetime, on the stainless steel parts | Ask the seller |
Where the other side is better
Imported chandeliers often cost less. China Daily reported in 2023 that a shop owner in Delhi’s Bhagirath Palace market said Indian-made festive light sets cost double or triple the Chinese ones.
Imports also bring a wider range of designs. A Mumbai traders’ association head said the same thing in that report.
If the lowest cost and the widest choice matter most, an imported chandelier can make sense. Just know who will help you in year three.
What we do at JagMag
JagMag Lights, a decorative lighting manufacturer in Greater Noida, has made chandeliers in its own factory since 2015. We are 100% made in India, a DPIIT-recognised startup, and CE, UL and ZED certified. You can see the details on our certifications page.
Because we make the light, we can make it fit your room. A custom size, finish or colour takes 15–20 working days.
Need a second chandelier for the dining room next year? Repeat orders match the first batch, so the two lights look like a pair.
Take our crystal flush mount chandelier. The chandelier comes in 14 sizes, in gold or silver, with K9 crystal balls and batons that sit flat against your ceiling. We keep its spare crystal parts for 10+ years.

We build big pieces too. We designed, built and installed an 18-foot crystal chandelier for the clubhouse at Purvanchal Royal City in Greater Noida.
Each chandelier is shaped and put together by hand in our Greater Noida factory, by people who will still be here when you need a spare. Warm light over the place where your family gathers is the kind of harmony Vastu has always valued.

FAQs
Are Chinese chandeliers good quality?
Some Chinese chandeliers are well made and some are not, so quality depends on the factory, not the country. The bigger question is service. Ask the seller who keeps spare crystals and who can change the size before you buy.
How do I know if a chandelier is made in China?
Check the “Country of Origin” line on the listing or the box. India’s e-commerce rules ask online shops to show the country of origin. If the line is missing, ask the seller to write it on your bill.
Can I get spare parts for an imported chandelier?
Sometimes, but only if the seller ordered extra parts with the shipment. Ask for one spare crystal or arm before you buy. JagMag keeps spare parts for its own chandeliers for 10+ years.
Does JagMag make its chandeliers in India?
Yes, JagMag makes every chandelier in its own factory in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. We have been making lights since 2015, and nothing we sell is imported or resold.
How long does a custom chandelier take in India?
A custom size, finish or colour from JagMag takes 15–20 working days. In-stock lights dispatch in 4 working days, and made-to-order lights in 12–15 working days.
Nature gives the material. Human hands give it meaning. Vastu inspires harmony. Light brings it to life. That is JagMag.
