You found the perfect chandelier online. The size looked close, and delivery was only a few days away.
Two years later, one glass shade slips during Diwali cleaning and breaks. You message the seller. Nobody has the same shade.
The trouble with many imported lights starts after the first week. The trouble shows up when you need the maker again: for a custom size, a second matching piece, or one spare part.
Here you will see how imported lights compare with lights made in India once you need that help. You will also get five questions to ask before you pay.
The short answer
For one ready-made light at the lowest price, an imported light already in an Indian warehouse can win. For a custom size, a matching second piece or a spare part, a light made in India wins. A ship from China to India spends about 15 to 30 days at sea, and every custom piece or spare has to make that trip.
So where does the time really go? The answer lies in where the light is made.
Imported lights: what really happens after you buy
An imported light is fast only when the box already sits in a warehouse in India. The listing shows a short delivery date because the box is close to you.
A custom size works differently. The factory abroad has to make the piece, pack it and put it on a ship.
Shipa Freight, a freight company, puts the sea trip from China to India at 15 to 30 days. Customs checks and the road trip to your city come after that.
A second matching piece takes the same long trip. A spare part does too, if anyone stocks one at all.
A light made in India skips the sea. Our in-stock lights leave our factory within 4 working days.
Made-to-order lights leave within 12 to 15 working days. A custom size, finish or colour takes 15 to 20 working days.
Think of a hotel lobby with six matching chandeliers. One gets damaged during a repair. The hotel now needs a seventh piece in the same size and the same finish.
A factory that made the first six can make the seventh. With an import, the hotel has to hope the same design still exists abroad, and then wait for the ship.
Distance also changes who answers your call. A maker in your own country works your hours, speaks your language and sends parts by road.
You can find out most of this before you buy. Here is how.
How to check it yourself
- Look for the line “Country of Origin” on the listing or on the box.
- Ask the seller who keeps spare parts, and for how many years.
- Read the return line, because “7 days replacement” covers only the first week.
- Ask if you can order a second, matching piece next year.
- Ask for any warranty in writing before you pay.

We checked a marketplace chandelier listing for this guide. The listing showed “7 Days Replacement” but no country of origin and no warranty.
With those answers in hand, the two choices are easy to put side by side.
Side by side
| What you care about | JagMag (made in Greater Noida) | Imported light |
|---|---|---|
| Where it is made | Our own factory in Greater Noida | Abroad; ask which country |
| Custom size | 15 to 20 working days | Made abroad, then shipped |
| Spare part in five years | Kept for 10+ years | Ask the seller in writing |
| Matching second piece | Made again in the same factory | Depends on the next shipment |
| A piece already in stock | Leaves our factory in 4 working days | Often reaches you in a few days |
The table favours us on most rows. But imported lights have real strengths, and you should hear them.
Where the other side is better
Imported lights often cost less on the day you buy. China Daily reported in 2023 that a trader in Delhi’s Bhagirath Palace market said the same decor made in India can cost double or triple.
Imports also win on variety. In the same report, a Mumbai traders’ leader said there are few other options if you want variety.
And when the exact piece already sits in an Indian warehouse, an import can reach you within days.
So if you want one ready-made light, fast, an import can be a fair choice. If you want a light for the long run, read on.
What we do at JagMag
JagMag Lights is a decorative lighting maker in Greater Noida. We started in 2015 in a small rented space. Today we make every light in our own factory.
We keep spare parts for 10+ years. Our policy is to repair or replace the faulty part where we can, not the whole light.
Our Sputnik chandelier shows why the maker matters. The chandelier carries 13 lights in reeded wood and alabaster, a soft stone that glows when light passes through it.

A craftsman looks at each piece of alabaster before deciding where to cut it. If one alabaster ball cracks years later, you can order that one spare piece from us.
Real stone, real wood and warm light give a room the calm feel that Vastu thinking values.
Big pieces work the same way. For the clubhouse at Purvanchal Royal City in Greater Noida, we designed, built and installed an 18-foot crystal chandelier ourselves.
We also work with a pan-India dealer network, and we help designers and architects with repeat orders that match the first batch. We give free installation help on a video call.
JagMag is a DPIIT-recognised startup, and our products are CE and UL certified. See our certifications page for the full list.
