Some lights fill a room with light. This one fills it with texture.
Two scalloped tiers of raffia paper rope, wound row after row over a frame, 50 cm across. Switch it on and the light pushes through the gaps between the cords — so you get a warm glow above and a soft, striped pattern below.
The gaps are the point
Look at the lit photo. The rope isn’t packed tight — there’s a deliberate space between each wrap.
That’s what makes this shade work. A solid shade blocks light and throws it straight down. This one lets it leak sideways too, so the ceiling and the walls pick up a warm wash instead of going dark.
The result is a room that feels lit, not spot-lit.
Raffia paper rope, not plastic wicker
The cord is raffia paper rope. It has a natural fibre texture with tiny loose strands you can see up close — that’s what gives it the handmade look rather than the flat, shiny finish of moulded plastic.
It’s a warm sandy brown that sits well against cream, white, terracotta or wood. If your room is already full of hard surfaces — glass, marble, polished tile — this is the piece that softens it.
Sized for a dining table
At 50 cm wide it’s a proper table light, not an accent. Hang one over a four to six seater and it covers the table properly.
It’s only 23 cm tall, so it doesn’t hang down into your sightline across the table. That matters more than people expect — a tall shade at eye level blocks the person opposite you.
It also suits a bedroom centre light, a kitchen island, or a stairwell landing where you want something warm rather than sharp.
A word on cleaning
Paper rope is not fabric. Don’t wet it.
Dust it with a dry, soft brush or the brush head on your vacuum, on low. That’s it. Keep it out of bathrooms and covered balconies — it’s rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms, and damp is what shortens the life of a paper-fibre shade.

Is a bulb included?
No. This light takes an E27 bulb and the bulb is supplied separately, so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature you want. We only include the light source when it is a built-in LED that cannot be replaced by the user.
What is the shade made of?
Raffia paper rope, wound row by row over a frame in two scalloped tiers. It has a natural fibre texture rather than the smooth finish of moulded plastic wicker.
How big is the rope pendant light?
50 cm in diameter and 23 cm tall, with the lower scalloped tier accounting for 9 cm of that. It suits a table seating four to six people.
How do I clean a paper rope shade?
Dust it with a dry soft brush or a vacuum brush head on a low setting. Do not use water or a damp cloth — paper rope should not be wetted.
Can I use it in a bathroom or a balcony?
No. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms only. Damp shortens the life of a paper-fibre shade, so avoid bathrooms, covered balconies and kitchens with heavy steam.
Which bulb gives the best effect?
A warm white E27 LED. Warm light brings out the sandy tone of the rope, and the open weave then throws a soft striped pattern onto the surrounding surfaces.
How long is the cord?
The cord is 1.5 m, and your electrician can shorten it at the time of installation to suit your ceiling height.
