Straw Pendant Light – Handwoven Wavy Straw Lamp, 48 cm

This straw lamp is a pendant light with a wide, wavy shade of natural grass fibre, 48 cm across. Each strand is laid and wrapped by hand over a 304-grade stainless steel ring. Switch it on and the straw glows golden, and a soft pool of warm light settles on your table.

The rim rises and falls like a petal. It is shaped as the shade is woven, so no two edges fall quite the same. Hang one over the dining table and the whole room starts to feel slower and warmer.

What is a straw pendant light made of?

Straw is dried grass. It grew in a field, was cut, dried in the sun and kept for its colour and strength. That puts it in the plant and natural-fibre family, beside cane, jute and bamboo.

In our Greater Noida factory, a pair of hands lays the grass-fibre strands side by side, from the crown out to the rim. Then each strand is wrapped over the wavy steel ring and bound in place, one by one. The craftsman decides how tight to pull each strand, which is why the rim curls a little differently on every shade.

Then the light does its work. Warm light slips through the small gaps between the strands and turns the straw a deep golden-tan. Because the shade is open at the sides, light also spills up and out, so your ceiling gets a gentle glow too. Switched off in daylight, the texture of the grass reads like a piece of craft hanging in the room.

Where does a straw lamp work best?

Over a round dining table, first of all. At 48 cm, one shade suits a table of 80–100 cm. Hang its bottom 75–80 cm above the tabletop and the table becomes the warm centre of the room.

It also works over a kitchen island, where one statement shade can do more than a cluster. Our photos show it over a dining table and above a side table in a living-room window corner. It suits a reading nook, a bedroom corner or a café counter just as well.

It belongs in rooms of about 10 × 10 ft and more, with a ceiling of 9 ft or higher. For a long table of 180 cm or more, hang two or three in a row, about 60–70 cm apart.

Light, fitting and the steel inside

The ring inside the shade and the canopy are 304-grade stainless steel. The canopy and the cap on the shade have a matte black finish, so the straw stays the focal point. Stainless steel does not rust, so we give a lifetime warranty against rusting on the stainless steel parts, on orders from 4 October 2026.

The light hangs on Teflon-coated copper wire, 1.5 m long as standard. Your electrician shortens it at installation, up to a 150 cm drop.

It takes one E27 bulb, up to 60W. The bulb is not included; fit a 3000K warm-white LED. A 6–8W LED gives the best glow and runs cool, which is kind to natural fibre. Cool or daylight bulbs wash out the golden-tan of the straw. This light is not dimmable. It is an IP20 indoor light for dry rooms, running on 220–240V.
