Why opal borosilicate glass glows so softly

Every globe starts as borosilicate glass, melted from silica sand, boric oxide, soda ash and alumina. White colour goes in while the glass is being made. That is what turns clear glass into opal.

Each globe is shaped while the glass is still molten, then set on the ring by hand. Switch it on and the bulb disappears. You see a round, milky glow instead, like a full moon on a clear night.

The ring beneath is 304-grade stainless steel in a matte black finish. It is the quiet line that carries the glass. Black disappears into a dark ceiling and looks crisp against a white one.

Where a circle chandelier looks best

Over a dining table is its home. The 82 cm ring suits a 6 to 8 seater table. Hang it about 75 to 90 cm above the table top.

Light, bulbs and fitting for this circle chandelier

Each globe has its own G9 holder, six in all. Bulbs are not included. Fit a 3000K warm-white G9 LED in each, up to 40 W per holder. A 3 to 4 W LED is plenty, so the whole circle chandelier draws under 25 W.

Warm 3000K light makes food look rich and faces look rested. This light is not dimmable. It gives a fixed, warm glow.

The ring, holders and round ceiling canopy are 304-grade stainless steel with a matte black finish. Steel like this does not rust. We back it with a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026. It hangs on Teflon-coated copper wire, 1.5 m as standard, and your electrician shortens it to suit your ceiling. It runs on 220–240 V and is IP20, made for indoor rooms.
