You walk into a lighting showroom on a Sunday. Hundreds of lights glow above you. One crystal piece catches your eye.
You ask who made it, and the answer is a brand name. You ask about a spare arm in 5 years, and you get a smile and a promise, but nothing on paper.
A lighting showroom is a good place to see and touch a light. But the shop floor rarely tells you who made it, what metal is inside, or who keeps the parts.
Below, you will see what 13 showroom websites put in writing. Then it gives you 5 questions to ask before you pay.
The short answer
Use a lighting showroom to see the light, but ask for the maker, the metal and the spares policy in writing. Of 13 showroom websites we read on 31 Oct 2026, 9 did not say who makes their lights. A maker can answer all three, and can make a custom size in 15–20 days, not 60–120.
What is really going on in a lighting showroom
A showroom sells. A factory makes. Many showrooms do both well, but you should know which one you are talking to.
- Who makes it: of 13 showroom websites, 2 said they make their own lights and 1 said it sells imported brands.
- Country of origin: 7 of 11 product pages we opened did not state one.
- Spare parts: 3 of 13 showroom websites mentioned spare parts anywhere.
- Warranty: 7 of 13 gave a warranty with a time, from 1 to 5 years.
- Imports: India imported US$466.91 million of lamps and lighting fittings in 2024, and 78.0% came from China.
- Shipping time: a sea shipment from China to an Indian port takes about 14 to 20 days, before customs and a truck.
Most lights in India still come from one country. India imported US$606.08 million of lamps and fittings in 2019 and US$466.91 million in 2024. The bill fell by about 23%, but China still sent 78 of every 100 dollars.
So the first question in any showroom is simple: who made this light? On 9 of the 13 websites we read, the answer was not written anywhere. 9 out of 13 is 69%.
The metal is the second question. On 11 product pages, 5 named the base metal, and 4 of those 5 said iron, MS or mild steel. Mild steel is the common steel used for gates and grills, and it rusts when the paint chips.
Time is the third question. An imported custom piece takes 60–120 days. A custom piece from our factory takes 15–20 days, so you wait 3 to 6 times less. 60 divided by 20 is 3, and 120 divided by 20 is 6.
A good showroom also shows you decorative lights in real life. Seeing the light matters. A photo cannot show you how warm a light feels in a room.
How to check it yourself
Ask these 5 questions at the counter, and ask for the answers on the bill or by email.
- Ask who made the light and in which city, and look for a name and address on the box.
- Ask what metal the frame is, and look for a grade such as 304 stainless steel.
- Ask how many days a custom size takes, and compare it with 15–20 days.
- Ask who sells a spare arm, glass or holder after 5 years.
- Ask for the warranty and the return window in writing, with the number of days.

We read 13 lighting showroom websites on 31 Oct 2026, in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and other cities. Only 4 said who makes their lights or where they are made, and only 3 mentioned spare parts.
Return windows were short too. 4 allowed 48 hours or less, and 4 allowed 7 days.

Where the other side is better
A showroom lets you see, touch and switch on a light before you pay. We sell online, so you see our lights in real photos.
Returns can be easier too. 4 of the 13 showrooms allow 7 days. We accept returns only for damage or defects reported within 24 hours of delivery. 7 days is 168 hours, which is 7 times our window.
Range can be bigger. One showroom chain lists 7 showrooms, and another site says it has over 1,000 designs. We make 420 lights.
What we do at JagMag
JagMag Lights is a decorative lighting maker with its own factory at Kasna, Greater Noida, making lights since 2015. Every product page names India as the country of origin, and 419 of 420 carry a spare parts line.
Every metal part we make is 304-grade stainless steel, the same grade as a good kitchen sink. 33 spare parts are sold on their own, from glass globes to mounting brackets.
Take our alabaster ball chandelier. The chandelier has 18 balls of real alabaster on a 60 cm stainless steel canopy, with a drop of up to 300 cm. A different ball count or finish takes 15–20 days.

Each alabaster ball is cut and polished by hand, and no two balls look alike. Stone from the earth and warm light bring the kind of harmony Vastu thinking values.
Our lifetime rust warranty covers the steel parts, for orders from 4 Oct 2026. If a part breaks in transit, we send the spare within 7–10 days. Want to know why makers and traders differ? Read lighting manufacturer vs trader and the Bhagirath Palace light market vs a maker.
