Modern Table Lamp – Sculptural Carved Wood Base

Some lamps only light a table. This modern table lamp gives the table something to look at, even before you switch it on. Its base is carved by hand from wood into one rounded, asymmetric form, scooped with deep hollows and a single curving horn. A natural linen shade sits on top and turns the bulb into a soft, warm glow.

A modern table lamp carved from real wood

Wood is a material that took years to grow. Each block reaches our bench with its own grain and its own weight.

Our craftsman looks at the block before he cuts. Where should the hollows go? How deep should each one be? Which curve should lift away from the body? He carves one scoop at a time, then smooths every edge by hand.

Then comes the colour. The wood is finished by hand in a deep, blackened coat. On the rims of the hollows, warm bronze tones show through. So the base reads as matte black from across the room, and as dark bronze up close.

Switch it on and the linen shade glows like warm paper. The light falls on the carved curves and catches every bronze edge. By day it is a small sculpture. By night it is the calmest light in the room.

Where this modern table lamp looks best

Put it where one strong piece is better than many small ones. A bedside table in a quiet, simple bedroom. A console against the living room wall. An entry table that sets the mood the moment you walk in.

It also suits a lounge, a reading corner or a study shelf, where the carved base can be seen from more than one side. Keep about 30 cm clear around the shade so it has room to breathe.

Light, bulb and setting it up

This modern table lamp takes one E27 bulb, up to 60W. The bulb is not included. Fit an 8W warm-white LED bulb at 3000K, about 700 lumens. It is bright enough to read by at arm’s length and still soft on the eyes.

The lamp is not dimmable. It gives a fixed warm light. It is rated IP20, made for indoor rooms.

The stem that carries the lamp holder is 304-grade stainless steel in a dark finish. It comes with a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026.

Setting it up is simple. Fit the shade and the bulb, place it on the table, plug in and switch on. No electrician is needed. If you want help, we will guide you on a free video call.

Care is easy too. Wipe the wood with a dry or lightly damp microfibre cloth, never with chemical sprays. Dust the linen shade with a soft brush.
