Tripod Table Lamp – Teak Wood Amphora with Raw Silk Shade

Some lamps light a corner. A tripod table lamp like this one gives the corner a centre. A dark teak wood amphora sits in a slim three-legged stand, under a wide raw silk shade. You notice it before you switch it on, and you keep noticing it after.

It stands 67 cm tall with a 50.8 cm (20 inch) coolie shade, so one lamp fills a console on its own. Two small scroll handles in an antique gold finish sit on the sides of the amphora, like the handles on an old water vessel.

Teak, turned and distressed by hand

Teak grows for decades before it reaches our bench. It is a dense, oily hardwood, the wood of old ship decks and carved doors. You can read more about teak wood and why it lasts.

In our own factory in India, a craftsman turns the amphora. Then he distresses the surface by hand, so the grain rises and the edges darken like old furniture. He decides where to leave a mark and where to smooth it. No two bodies come out the same.

The shade is raw silk, a natural fibre with a soft slub you can feel. Its edge is whip-stitched in a dark thread. Switch it on and the silk turns a warm honey colour, while the teak goes a deep bronze-brown.

Where a tripod table lamp works best

Three legs spread the weight, so the tall amphora stands steady even on a narrow console. The legs lift the wood off the table and make the lamp look lighter than its 2.8 kg. Leave about 60 cm of console width for the shade.

Light, bulb and the steel stand

The lamp takes one E27 bulb, up to 40W. The bulb is not included. Fit an 8W 3000K warm-white LED, about 700 lm. Cool or daylight bulbs flatten the teak and make the silk look grey.

The wide coolie shade sends light down onto the console and out to the wall behind. You get a soft pool of warm light, with no glare in your eyes. The lamp is not dimmable. It plugs into any wall socket on a braided fabric cord, so no wiring is needed. It is IP20, made for indoor rooms.

The tripod, the ring that holds the amphora and the scroll handles are 304-grade stainless steel. The stand has a dark black finish and the handles an antique gold finish. The steel carries a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026.
