Italian Chandelier vs Made in India: How Long Will You Wait?

Italian chandelier or made in India? See where the weeks go: making time plus about 5 weeks at sea, vs custom in 15–20 working days. Compare first.

A finished hall with bare ceiling wires and an unopened shipping crate, waiting for an imported Italian chandelier

The flat is almost ready. The floor is done. The paint is dry. The sofa has come.

But in the middle of the hall ceiling, two wires still hang out of a hole. You fell in love with an Italian chandelier in a showroom. The order is placed. Now you wait.

The housewarming date comes closer. Nobody can tell you the exact day the light will arrive. You start planning the party around a light you have not seen since the showroom.

Below, you will see where the weeks go when you order one. You will also see how a light made in India, to your size, can reach you faster.

The short answer on Italian chandelier wait times

An Italian chandelier is made in Italy, then shipped to India, often by sea, then cleared at an Indian port. Each step adds weeks, and the making time alone can run from one week to about four months.

At JagMag, most custom lights are ready in 15–20 working days, from our own factory in Greater Noida.

What is really going on

A made-to-order chandelier from Italy is not sitting in a warehouse in India. A workshop in Italy starts making it after you order.

Artemest, an online gallery of Italian craft, shows the making time on each chandelier. Some say “Handcrafted in 1 week”. Others say 3–4 weeks, 7–8 weeks, or even 16–17 weeks.

After the workshop finishes, the chandelier still has to travel. A ship between Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva port and Italian ports like Genoa takes about 35–40 days, says the logistics company ASSTRA.

Then the crate must clear customs, reach the city, and reach your home. Only then can your electrician fit it.

So the real wait is the making time plus about five weeks if the crate comes by sea. Then add the port and the road. The showroom can give you a date, but the showroom does not control the workshop or the ship.

A custom size can add to the wait. Artemest marks some chandeliers as customizable on request. A new size has to be agreed with the workshop in Italy before the making time even starts.

How to check it yourself

Before you pay an advance, ask the seller these five things.

  1. Ask where the chandelier is made, and where it will ship from.
  2. Ask for the making time and the shipping time as two separate numbers.
  3. Ask for the delivery date in writing on your order form.
  4. Measure your ceiling and table, and ask if the size can change and how many weeks that adds.
  5. Ask who in India keeps a spare glass or holder for this model.

Measure your room first, then ask for the size you need. Concept illustration, not a JagMag product.

A good seller will answer all five without fuss. With those answers in hand, the two choices become easy to compare.

Where the other side is better

Italy is home to many famous lighting names. Blown glass chandeliers are still made by hand in Venice today.

Some imported pieces are also quick. A few are ready to ship, and some makers on Artemest list a making time of one week.

In cities like Mumbai, showrooms that represent European brands let you see the light, measure your space and arrange installation. If a famous name matters to you and your date is flexible, an Italian chandelier can be the right choice.

What we do at JagMag

JagMag Lights is a decorative lighting manufacturer in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, making lights in our own factory since 2015. Design, stainless steel metalwork, glass and finishing all happen under one roof.

Because everything is made here, we can make custom lights in your size and finish. Most custom lights are ready in 15–20 working days once the design is locked. Very large pieces can take longer, and we confirm the date before work starts.

Our custom work follows clear steps. We take your reference photo, set the scale for your room, and fix the design and finish. Then we build the structure, make the light, check it and pack it.

For the SKA Orion lobby in Noida, we made two leaf chandeliers to fit the ceiling exactly. Each glass leaf was shaped by hand. The size, colour and finish were all built to match the space. Our own team fitted both lights on site, and the same design can be made again for a later phase.

Coloured glass chandelier lit, 28 glass discs glowing in green, blue and amethyst
A real JagMag piece: the coloured glass chandelier, 4 ft, with 28 borosilicate glass discs on a 304-grade stainless steel frame, made in our own factory.

Our metal parts are 304-grade stainless steel, the same family of steel as a good kitchen sink. We keep spares for 10+ years, so a broken glass piece is a short call, not a long wait. Our products and spare parts are CE and UL certified, as listed on our certifications page.

Real glass and warm light in the centre of the hall bring the kind of harmony Vastu thinking values. A light that arrives before the housewarming lets that harmony start on day one.

FAQs

How long does an Italian chandelier take to reach India?

The wait is the making time, plus about five weeks if it comes by sea, plus port and road time. Making times on Artemest listings range from one week to 16–17 weeks.

Are Italian chandeliers better than Indian-made chandeliers?

Not always. Italian brands offer famous design names, while a good Indian maker offers your size, a faster date and local spares. Compare the material, the date in writing and who keeps spares.

Can I get an Italian-style chandelier made in India?

Yes, an Indian maker with its own factory can build a chandelier to your size and finish. At JagMag, most custom lights are ready in 15–20 working days.

What should I ask before ordering a chandelier from abroad?

Ask for the making time, the shipping time and the delivery date in writing. Also ask if the size can change and who in India keeps spares.

Who keeps spare parts for an imported chandelier?

Spares for an imported chandelier come from its maker or seller, if they keep them, so ask before you buy. JagMag keeps spares for 10+ years in India.

Nature gives the material. Human hands give it meaning. Vastu inspires harmony. Light brings it to life. That is JagMag.
