Coloured Glass Chandelier – 4 ft Brass Bowl with 6″ Glass Discs | Jagmag Lights

This coloured glass chandelier arranges 28 glass discs, each 150 mm across, into a shallow bowl on a brass-finished stainless steel frame. Behind every disc sits a brass petal rosette and an E27 lamp, so the light passes through the glass and takes its colour on the way out. Four feet across and two and a half feet deep — green, light blue, amethyst, yellow and smoke, mixed rather than ordered.

Where it fits

At 122 cm across this is a room-defining fixture. It needs height above it and clear space around it.

• Over a large dining table: A table for eight to twelve. Hang the base 80 to 90 cm above the tabletop so the underside is visible from every seat.
• In a double-height living room or foyer: The chain drop suits a tall void, and the bowl reads beautifully from a landing or staircase looking down into it.
• In a hotel lobby or a restaurant: This is a hospitality-scale piece, and the colour gives a room a signature that plain crystal cannot.
• Above a wide seating group: Centred over a large sofa arrangement in a room of at least 18 ft × 18 ft.

Why you will use it every day

The colour is doing something, not just decorating.

Each glass disc sits directly in front of its own lamp, so what leaves the fixture is coloured light rather than white light near coloured glass. Green, light blue, amethyst, yellow and smoke are mixed across the bowl without a pattern, which means the cast changes as you move around the room and the ceiling above picks up a soft wash of all five at once.

The brass rosette behind each disc is the detail that makes it. Cut petals radiate around the lamp holder and reflect light back through the glass, so the centre of every disc reads as a bright flower rather than a bare bulb. It is what stops a fixture with this many visible lamps from looking like a rig of exposed bulbs.

The frame is 304-grade stainless steel with a brass finish, not brass-plated mild steel. That matters on a piece this size and this heavy — 304 does not rust, so the arms holding the glass stay true and the finish does not bloom in humidity. It is the specification you want in a coastal city or a room with an open kitchen.

Every glass disc is a separate component held on its own arm. If one is ever damaged you replace that disc, not the chandelier. We hold spare parts for 10 years and more, which on a fixture at this price is the difference between a repair and a loss.

It takes 28 standard E27 bulbs — budget for that when you buy them. Clear filament lamps look right behind the rosettes — you can see them in the photographs — but frosted lamps will soften the colour if you prefer that.

Light & finish

Lit, the effect is a wide, low bowl of coloured light with the ceiling above it washed warm. Because every one of the 28 lamps is shaded by its own disc, there is no single glaring source even though the fixture carries that many bulbs.

The glass is transparent rather than opal, so the discs stay visibly coloured when lit and hold their tone when switched off. Unlit, the chandelier reads as a mosaic of green, blue and amethyst against brass — it is as much an object in daylight as it is a light at night.

Use warm bulbs at 2700K to 3000K. The brass and the amber and amethyst glass all carry warmth, and a cool lamp fights them and turns the green tones slightly grey.

Fit all the lamps the same. On a fixture with this many visible sources, one mismatched bulb shows immediately.
