Alabaster Lantern Pendant Light – Carved Natural Stone and Leather Straps, 55 Inch Drop

Walk in after dark and the first thing you see is a warm glow at head height. The stone lights up. Its veins show. The hall feels like someone is home.

This alabaster lantern pendant light gives you that. A carved vessel of real alabaster hangs from two leather straps. Antique brass finish hardware holds it, and two leather tassels hang below. Lit, the stone glows warm amber. Unlit, it is a pale, carved sculpture against dark leather.

Real alabaster, carved by hand

Alabaster is stone formed beneath the earth. It belongs to the stone family, like marble and travertine, but it lets light through.

Our craftsman looks at the block first. He reads where the veins run. Then he carves the tapered lantern around them, facet by facet, and smooths each face by hand. The veins stay where nature put them. So the piece you get is yours alone. No two are the same.

Switch it on and the whole vessel becomes the light. The stone turns honey-warm, the dense parts go a little darker, and the veins come forward. There is no bare bulb to squint at. Just soft, low-glare light falling below.

The straps are wrapped in leather and the tassels are knotted leather. They keep the piece warm and handmade, not showroom-shiny.

Where does an alabaster lantern pendant light work best?

• Entry or foyer: the 55 inch (140 cm) total drop fills a tall entry and greets guests with a warm glow.
• Stairwell or double-height wall: the long drop and slim 6 inch (15 cm) width suit a tall, narrow space.
• Over a bar, counter or console: one piece gives soft light without blocking the view across the room.
• Restaurants and hospitality: hang one, or several along a counter, for a warm, crafted look.
• Loft-style living and dining spaces: it sits well beside brick, plaster and big windows, or over a table.

It suits organic modern, wabi-sabi, industrial, contemporary and hospitality interiors. Pair it with raw timber, brick, plaster walls, leather and aged brass. Keep it away from high-gloss chrome or ornate crystal fixtures.

Light and fitting

The canopy, rod, rings, clips and side toggle are 304-grade stainless steel. Their finish is antique brass. Stainless steel does not rust. We back that with a lifetime warranty against rusting on orders from 4 October 2026.

The total drop is 55 inches (140 cm). The fixture itself is 28 inches (71 cm), from the leather-wrapped rod to the tassels. The stone shade is 8 inches (20 cm) tall. The drop is set at installation, so it can be shortened for a lower ceiling.

It takes one E27 bulb, up to 60 W. The bulb is not included, so fit a 3000K warm-white LED. The alabaster softens it into an even, warm glow. This light is not dimmable. It is rated IP20, for indoor use, and runs on 220–240V.

A licensed electrician hard-wires it to a standard ceiling point in 20–30 minutes. We help on a free video call if needed. Over a counter, hang the base 75–85 cm above the surface. In an entry or stairwell, keep at least 7 ft of clear headroom below the lowest point.
