One arm of your chandelier has gone bare. Or you want one spot of deep blue where every other globe is plain. This blue crackle glass ball fills that gap.

It is a 6.5 inch (165 mm) round glass ball for a chandelier, jhumar or lamp arm. Its surface is a mosaic of crackled blue, aqua and navy glass, held in a fine web of white lines. It is a spare part, not a light. You slide it onto a fitting you already have.

What is a crackle glass ball made of?

This ball is borosilicate glass. That is clear, pure glass melted from silica sand, boric oxide, soda ash and alumina. Blue, aqua and navy colour is added while the glass is made, so the colour sits in the glass, not on top of it.

Then the crackle. It is formed by hand while the ball is made, so every crack finds its own path. No two balls carry the same pattern.

Switch the light on and the glass turns into a mosaic of blue and aqua patches on your ceiling and walls. Walk around the room and the pattern moves with you. In daylight it still reads as a jewel, cobalt and teal against white lines.

Which lights does this blue crackle glass ball fit?

The ball has one round opening that sits over the holder collar of a fitting. It works on:

• Multi-arm chandeliers and jhumars. Replace a cracked or missing globe, or refit every arm so they all match.
• Custom chandelier builds. For designers who want coloured light that breaks into patches, not a plain white glow.
• Table and floor lamps. Slide it over a candle holder and a plain lamp gets a point of colour.
• Wall brackets and arm sconces. At 165 mm wide it suits medium arms, at eye level, where the crackle shows best up close.

It fits E14 and E27 candle-style holders. Collar sizes vary between fittings, so measure the opening of your old globe first. Send us that number and a photo, and we will tell you if it fits.

Which bulb looks best inside a blue glass ball?

Use a 3000K warm-white LED in the parent light. Warm light balances the cool blue and gives a rich aqua glow. Very cool white bulbs make the blue look stark.

The ball sits well on brass, gold or chrome finish arms. The metal frames the blue glass cleanly. This part carries no wiring, holder or bulb of its own.
