Overview
A tapered column of black-stained wood rising from a disc of black marble, topped by a linen shade cut at a slant. This tall floor lamp stands 173 cm (68.1 in), and its shade is 30 cm (11.8 in) across. It looks like a single brushstroke in the corner of a room.
Switch it on and the linen glows like warm paper. Light spills out of the open side of the slanted shade, down the column and onto the floor, so the lamp lights itself as well as the room.
Wood, marble and linen, shaped by hand
The column is real wood, turned on a lathe into a long, slow taper and stained a deep ebony black. The grain still shows through the stain, so you see the wood and not a coat of paint.
It stands on a round base of black marble, stone formed beneath the earth over millions of years. The stone gives the tall floor lamp a low, heavy footing, and its fine veins catch the light from above.
The shade is cream linen, a natural plant fibre with a fine, textured weave, wrapped into a tall cone and cut at an angle. It sits on the column like a hood, so the light comes out softly from one side.
Wood, stone and fibre, each left looking like itself. That is what makes this tall floor lamp feel like a sculpture that happens to give light.
