Floor Lamp IKEA vs Made in India: What 14 Pages List

You have seen the lamp in a friend’s living room. A slim stand, a soft shade, a box you can carry home in one hand. Now you are on the IKEA India page, with 21 floor lamps on the screen.

Then a small doubt comes. What is the base made of? Who fixes the shade if it cracks in two years? Where was the lamp made?

The answers are on the product pages, but most people never scroll that far. We did. On 29 October 2026 we read 14 IKEA India floor lamp pages, line by line.

Below, you will see what a floor lamp IKEA page lists and what our own pages list. You will also get five checks to do before you pay.

The short answer

A floor lamp IKEA sells is light, low-priced and easy to return, with 365 days to bring it back. On the 14 IKEA India pages we read, 13 list a plastic part and 12 say “China” as the country of origin. A JagMag floor lamp is made in our Greater Noida factory with a 304 stainless steel frame. You can buy its spare parts for 10+ years.

What is really going on

By the numbers:

IKEA India lists 21 floor lamps on its floor lamp page (29 October 2026).
13 of the 14 IKEA pages we read name a plastic part in the materials list.
12 of the 14 pages say “China” as the country of origin. 1 says India.
0 of the 14 pages mention a warranty or spare parts.
We make 17 floor lamps. All 17 are made in India, with 304 stainless steel frames.

Every floor lamp has one hidden job. The base must hold a tall stem up, day after day, even when a child bumps it.

IKEA writes the base material clearly on each page. On 6 of the 14 pages, the part that holds the lamp down is “reinforced EVA plastic”. EVA is a soft, rubbery plastic, like the sole of a slipper. One lamp uses concrete. One uses plastic filled with sand.

IKEA also writes an honest warning on its SKAFTET arched base. The page says a glass shade is too heavy for that base and “can cause the lamp base to tip”. A heavy shade needs a heavy base.

Here is a simple sum on weight. The IKEA BARLAST box weighs 1.23 kg, lamp and packing together. Our 7-globe chrome lamp weighs 8.98 kg on its own. 8.98 ÷ 1.23 is about 7.3. So our lamp weighs more than 7 times the whole BARLAST box.

A second sum, on origin. 12 China pages out of 14 is 86 in every 100. India’s own trade numbers point the same way. China sent US$9.71 million of the US$13.09 million in lamps India imported in 2024. China’s share was about 74 in every 100 dollars.

Those imports have shrunk. India bought US$26.86 million of these lamps from abroad in 2019 and US$13.09 million in 2024. US$13.09 million is about 51% less than in 2019.

A lighter lamp is not a bad lamp. A lighter lamp suits a small flat and a short stay. If you want floor lamps that stand steady and get repaired for years, the material list is where the story starts.

How to check it yourself

Scroll to the materials list and look for the words “plastic”, “EVA”, “ABS” or “polypropylene”.
Find the line “Country of Origin”. On 12 of our 14 IKEA pages, it said China.
Read the box weight. The lamp itself always weighs less than its box, so a 1.23 kg box means a lamp under 1.23 kg.
Ask what holds the base down: steel, stone, concrete, sand or plastic.
Ask one plain question: “Can I buy just the shade or the holder in 10 years?”

Where IKEA is better

IKEA gives you 365 days to return a lamp for a full refund, even an opened one. Our policy is stricter, because our lights are fragile and often made to order.

IKEA’s lowest-priced floor lamp costs about one quarter of our lowest-priced one. IKEA also shows 21 floor lamps against our 17. And IKEA’s HEKTAR floor lamp page says “India” as its country of origin.

What we do at JagMag
