It is a slim fish of borosilicate glass, about 6 inch (150 mm) long, with a forked tail, a small eye pressed into the head and a hanging loop on its back. You choose the colour: gold, blue or teal. It is a spare part, not a light, and it comes 100 pieces to a box.

What is this glass fish made of?

Every fish is borosilicate glass. It is melted from natural raw ingredients: silica sand, boric oxide, soda ash and alumina. The colour goes into the glass while it is made, so it is not paint and it will not peel.

• Gold: gold-lustre borosilicate glass, a warm see-through gold.
• Blue: blue borosilicate glass, a clear sky blue.
• Teal: teal borosilicate glass, a deep sea green-blue.

Each fish is shaped by hand in our Greater Noida factory. The craftsman draws the hot glass into a body, pulls out the two tail fins and presses in the eye. Then he forms the loop on the back so the fish can hang. Because hands do this work, the curve of each tail is a little different. On a chandelier, that small difference makes the fish look like they are moving.

Borosilicate glass handles heat well. So the fish stays clear and bright on a light you switch on every evening, for years.

Switch the light on and it passes through the coloured glass. Each fish glows in its own colour, and the tail edges catch a thin line of brightness.

Where does a 6 inch glass fish fit?

At about 150 mm long, this fish is a clear accent you notice from across the room. It suits:

• Chandeliers and jhumars. Replace one lost fish, or hang a full shoal around the frame.
• Hanging lights. A ring of fish around a pendant gives it colour and movement.
• Wall lights. Two or three fish on a bracket add colour without crowding the wall.

Which bulb looks best behind coloured glass fish?

Use a 3000K warm-white LED in the parent light. Warm light makes the gold fish glow like honey and keeps blue and teal soft, never cold. This part has no wiring, holder or bulb of its own.
