Glass Ball Lamp Shade – 150 mm Gold Amber Borosilicate Globe

One cloudy or cracked globe can make a whole light look tired. This glass ball lamp shade puts it right. It is a 150 mm (about 6 inch) globe in gold-lustre borosilicate glass. Its one open neck slips onto the holder you already have.

Switch it on and a plain bulb turns into warm, honey-gold light. It is a spare part, not a full light. It brings a pendant, chandelier arm, jhumar or lamp back to life, and the fitting stays as it is.

Gold-lustre borosilicate glass, blown by mouth

Borosilicate glass begins as natural raw ingredients: silica sand, boric oxide, soda ash and alumina. Melted together, they make glass that is crystal-clear and pure. It is the same heat-tough glass used for laboratory glassware.

For this globe, a gold lustre is added while the glass is made. Then a glassblower shapes each ball by mouth, with a 3 mm wall. Because a person blows every piece, no two globes are exactly the same. The lustre settles a little differently on each one.

Unlit, the glossy surface catches the room’s light like a polished gold ornament. Lit, the glass glows deepest gold at the base and turns pale honey towards the top. The glare of a bare bulb softens into an even, warm glow.

Where a 150 mm glass ball shade fits

• A single pendant. Slip it onto a bare pendant holder for a warm amber accent over a bedside table or in a hallway.
• Chandelier and jhumar arms. Replace one worn or mismatched globe, or refresh every arm at once so the whole fixture glows the same gold.
• A wall sconce. Swap a dated or broken globe on an existing sconce holder without touching the wiring.
• Table and floor lamps. It fits globe holders on standard lamp stems and gives a reading corner a warmer, more decorative light.

It looks right with brass, gold and champagne finishes, antique bronze, warm wood, marble and travertine. Pair it with a warm 3000K LED. Cool-white or daylight bulbs cancel the amber glow, and silver or chrome fittings can look like a mismatch.

Why borosilicate glass lasts on a light

Ordinary decorative glass can cloud, discolour or crack under steady bulb heat. Borosilicate glass handles that heat far better and is tougher than thin decorative glass against everyday knocks. So this shade keeps its colour and shine for years.

When a globe does need changing, the swap takes less than a minute. You change the glass, not the whole fitting.

Fitting your new globe

This shade is glass only. It has no holder, wiring or bulb of its own. It sits on a standard globe holder on your pendant, chandelier arm, jhumar, sconce or lamp.

Before you order, check that your holder takes a 150 mm globe. Measure the old globe, or the opening on the holder. Not sure? Send us a photo and we will check it for you.
