IKEA Pendant Light or Made-to-Size: Which Suits You?

You found an IKEA pendant light you like. The shade looks right. The photo shows a calm dining table, a lot like yours.

Then you measure your own table. The table is long, and the shade looks small above it. You check the page again. The lamp comes in one size.

So you start to wonder. Should you hang two? Should you buy a bigger lamp you like less? Or can someone make the light you want, in your size?

Below, you will see what an IKEA product page tells you and what a made-to-size pendant gives you. Then you can choose in ten minutes.

The short answer

Pick an IKEA pendant light if a standard size fits your room and you want an easy return. Pick a made-to-size pendant if your table or ceiling needs a size the catalogue does not have. At JagMag, a custom size takes 15–20 days, and the steel parts carry a lifetime warranty against rust.

Why an IKEA pendant light comes in one size

A catalogue store sells the same design to many homes at once. So each design has a fixed size. On IKEA India, the ACKJA pendant is 60 cm wide. The AKTERSPRING pendant is 73 cm wide. The SINNERLIG bamboo shade is 27 cm wide. Each page we read listed one size for that design.

A fixed size works well when your room is a usual size. Many homes have a usual room, and a catalogue lamp suits them fine.

Trouble starts when your room is not usual. A long dining table, a high ceiling or a wide hall can make a catalogue shade look lost.

Picture a long table for eight. One small shade lights the middle and leaves both ends dim. You can hang two or three shades in a row, but then you need more holes in the ceiling and more wiring.

A single shade in the right size often looks calmer. The light falls on the whole table, and the ceiling stays clean.

How to check it yourself

Measure your table or room first, and write down the width you want the light to cover.
Open the product page and find the size line, then see if more than one size is listed.
Read the “Country of origin” line, which IKEA shows on most product pages.
Read the materials list for the metal parts, because “steel, powder coating” means painted steel, not stainless steel.
Ask who sells you a spare shade or holder in year five, and ask to see the warranty in writing.

Where IKEA is better

Returns. IKEA India lets you return a lamp within 365 days for a full refund, even when it is opened, with the original invoice. We accept returns only for damage in transit. Our custom pieces cannot be returned once we start making them.

Range on the shelf. IKEA India listed 42 pendant lamps when we checked in October 2026. You can choose from many designs that are ready to buy today.

Some natural shades too. The SINNERLIG shade is handmade from bamboo. IKEA deserves credit for that.

FAQs

Are IKEA pendant lights made in India?

Not the ones we checked. The IKEA India pages for ACKJA and AKTERSPRING list China as the country of origin, and the SINNERLIG page did not show it. Read the Country of origin line on each product page before you buy.

Can I get an IKEA pendant light in a custom size?

No custom size was offered on the IKEA pages we read; each design came in one listed size. For a size of your own, ask a maker with a factory. At JagMag, a custom size, finish or colour takes 15–20 days.

Does a pendant light come with a bulb?

Usually not. IKEA says the light bulb is sold separately, and JagMag holder lights also ship without a bulb. Fit a 3000K warm-white LED that matches the holder named on the page.

Will a powder-coated steel pendant rust?

Only where the paint breaks. A chip or deep scratch lets damp air reach the steel, and rust can start there and creep under the paint. Stainless steel has no paint layer to chip, and ours carries a lifetime rust warranty.

Can I return a custom pendant light?

Not usually. JagMag accepts returns only for damage in transit, reported within 24 hours of delivery, and custom pieces are final once making starts. IKEA India allows returns within 365 days on its standard products.
