At minimum, 12 ft of ceiling clearance for the 6 ft drop version — the base should clear 7 ft of head height on the floor below. For the full 16 ft drop, plan on 18+ ft of total ceiling height. Any good electrician can trim the rod sections to your exact stairwell measurement.
