Jhumar lights are India’s own take on the chandelier — a hanging light strung with crystals, glass or beads that scatters a warm, sparkling glow across a room. Most jhumar lights for Indian homes cost between Rs.3,000 and Rs.40,000, while large crystal jhumars for halls and banquets cost more. Here is the simple guide: the styles people love, real price bands, and how to choose the right one for your home.

What is a jhumar light?

Let me explain. A jhumar is the Indian word for a decorative hanging light — what most people now call a chandelier. It hangs from the ceiling and drips with crystals, glass drops or beads that catch the light and throw it around the room.

Old jhumars used candles. Today they use warm LED bulbs, so you get the same fairytale sparkle without the heat or the mess. If you want the full comparison, read our guide on chandelier vs jhumar.

Here is the part that matters for you: a good jhumar is handmade. At JagMag we build every jhumar in India by hand, which means you can get spare crystals and parts even years later — something importers usually can’t promise.

7 jhumar light styles people love

Not all jhumar lights look the same. Here are the seven styles Indian homes pick most often.

  1. Crystal jhumar. The classic. Rows of faceted crystals that sparkle like jewellery — perfect over a dining table. See our crystal chandeliers.
  2. Living-room jhumar. A medium statement piece that ties your seating area together. Browse living room chandeliers.
  3. Modern LED jhumar. Clean rings and bars with built-in warm LED — great for apartments and low ceilings. The Raindrop K9 flush-mount jhumar (from ₹4,275) is a favourite for flats.
  4. Glass jhumar. Softer sparkle from blown or moulded glass instead of cut crystal. See the cascading Glass Jhumar (₹88,600).
  5. Brass jhumar. Warm metal frames with a heritage, haveli feel.
  6. Bead and fabric jhumar. Lighter, boho-friendly, easy on the budget.
  7. Grand banquet jhumar. Big multi-tier crystal pieces for foyers, double-height halls and wedding venues — like the Modern Jhumar for Hall (₹87,900). Planning a venue? Read our jhumar for wedding guide.

How to choose the right jhumar light

Three quick rules and you’re done.

1. Get the size right. Add your room’s length and width in feet. That number in inches is a good diameter for your jhumar. A 12 ft x 14 ft living room? Look for about a 26-inch jhumar.

2. Pick warm light. Choose warm white LED bulbs (around 2700K). They give that soft, golden glow that makes crystals come alive — cool white looks like an office.

3. Mind the drop. Over a dining table, the bottom of the jhumar should sit about 30-36 inches above the table. In a foyer, hang it high and let it be the star.

Buying for a project, hotel or a phased installation? Because we manufacture in-house in India, we can make the exact same jhumar again later and finish custom pieces in about 15-20 working days — far faster than the 60-120 days importers usually need.

Jhumar light FAQs

Is a jhumar the same as a chandelier?

Yes — jhumar is the Indian word for a decorative hanging light. A chandelier and a jhumar are the same thing; jhumar simply has the desi, festive feel to the name.

What is the price of a jhumar light in India?

Small jhumar lights start around Rs.3,000, medium crystal jhumars are usually Rs.8,000-25,000, and large banquet jhumars run Rs.25,000 and up.

Are crystal jhumars hard to clean?

Not really. Dust them with a soft dry cloth every few weeks, and do a gentle damp wipe once or twice a year. Because ours are made in India, you can also order spare crystals if one ever chips.

Which jhumar is best for a small flat?

A modern LED jhumar or a compact crystal one. They give the sparkle without crowding a low ceiling.

Can I order a custom jhumar?

Yes. As an Indian manufacturer we make custom jhumars to your size and finish, usually in about 15-20 working days, with spare parts available for years.
